"I'll never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes."
3D has been a wonderful exercise but I was brought up as a camera operator so its really about lensing and all that kind of stuff. So with the help I've had from a wonderful cameraman and his technical team its been, for me, a pretty straight forward ride. That said I'll never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes. I love the whole process. 3D opens up the universe of even a small dialogue scene so I've been very impressed with that.
"Prometheus" is shot with dual RED Epic-X cameras (5K capture resolution) like The Hobbit.
It is possible that 3D movies shot in higher than 4K resolution and 3D projected in full 4K resolution will overcome much of the problems associated with 3D movies till now.
All of "Prometheus" will be shot on stereo cameras and very little, if any at all, will be live action and not CGI.
3D is in its infancy, but for the industry to not destroy 3D in the eyes of the audience experience at this early stage, ought to make a standard where 3D movies will only be presented in 4K or higher.
Not that I believe they are smart enough to make such a standard, but surely 3D will only get better when film makers learn this new craft.
