What I feel is that as JP was shot "tight" by the DOP, cropping it more would make it even more tighter.
Plus in that Brachiosaur shot did anybody notice how much has been cropped. Look at the top and bottom, look at the right side of the image, that's a big chunk gone!
It makes the frame look super-cramped! This is the exact same framing I saw yesterday in a plex. And the forehead of the Brachiosaur got cut off every-time it touched the edge!
I know what you are saying though! Projection can cause the edge cropping. But this shouldn't be a problem with Bluray! And even HDTVs have overscan, though not as punishing as CRTs.
And it makes me especially sad seeing the brilliantly framed shots given in the movie's website( which are already framed at 1.85:1)
, has been cropped further. Just my issue, though some are worried about it as well.
Just a few months ago when those screens were released(from the trailers, etc), people became so hopeful that the shrunk framing of the Bluray has been corrected, now its time for disappointment( for those folks, including me)
But if you look at it the laserdisc framing just once, you'll notice it looks less cramped and more majestic than the new 3D BD. But I know you'll not agree with me so I accept it. with no hard feelings, 'cause these are all opinions after all. Unless we get to talk with Spielberg or Cundey (who might be more accessible)
there is no way we'll know for sure. And we'll have to remain content with our individual preference. Please don't take me in a wrong way, OK.
Otherwise I like the new master much more than the previous one.Edited by Papai2011 - 4/16/13 at 1:27am
