Hi Jim,

Yes, it does seem odd - a supposed subwoofer in a wireless speaker. I am wondering if these will have the same size BMR Drivers as the Min speakers? If they are bigger, then it might mean newer Min models as well?

As a regular reader of Whathifi, I noticed them yesterday and wondered the same thing.

It would be rather cool to have a large BMR, wireless Minx 5.1 system.

In the absence of any recent posts by Minxiacs, and with our friends at CA mute on the subject of future BMR developments,I thought I'd muse on how the Minx systems sometimes suffer in reviews, given the universally observed phenomenon of increasing detail and breadth with proper break in. Even the most enthusiastic Minx users have commented on the restrained quality of a new, non-broken in set.

Reading this 2011 Techradar review it's clear they allowed no time for the required break in. The break in of the BMRs creates a dramatic change.

So perhaps our reticent CA friends should inform reviewers of the phenomenon. That is if they can tear themselves away from their Bass Ale and Vindaloo.

Yes, I'm amazed at the advertising that CA does on the Minx, including the back cover of every issue of Home Theater mag. You'd think there be more people looking in on this Thread. Makes one wonder if they are really flying off the shelves here Stateside. Plus, where are all the professional reviews on the newer models? I would love to see just one each on the Min 11 & 21 with measurements included.

I suspect that the construction and materials of the BMR, being stiff in a unique way, requires the break-in
period more than other designs to give it extension and the suppleness required for radiation of the higher frequencies. That's probably why a few reviewers have commented on a certain shrillness and restraint...not really characteristic of these speakers at all, when broken in.

Still, it would be cool to have a wireless 5.1 Minx setup.

Put that Vindaloo down, chaps! We in the Colonies await your comments! biggrin.gif

The title descriptions with the Minx systems on Amazon now included the Version 2 (V2) moniker. This is to let potential purchasers know that their set will contain either the newer Min 11 or Min 21 satellite models respectively.

Well, it still is a BMR driver whether it's used wide range or not. Personally, I'm not interested in a 2 1/4" Long Throw Woofer. If / when I add more speakers, I will be getting the Min 11, when they are priced reduced from not selling well. Right now, I'm more interested in what will be introduced in the third quarter of next year. Hopefully, something that plays down to, at least, 100 hz.

Well, I'd like to see BMRs covering as much of the frequencies as possible, but CA obviously thought the could extend the bass by swapping one BMR for the woofer. The only review I read..the one from the Netherlands...suggests the strategy was successful. My point is that some vendors are marketing it as a dual BMR design, which it isn't.

I've always found What HiFi's "reviews" -- if you can actually call them that -- to be nothing more then a joke. It probably takes them 30 minutes, tops, to put something like that together. Shameful.

Also, according to the Specs on the two speakers (Min 11 & 21), they both are the same. So, where's the extension at with the dual driver (Min 21) speaker? Maybe, it makes the speaker sound fuller in comparison to it's smaller sibling, not extend lower, per se.

Regarding What HiFi, sometimes they do a better job with reviews, but the review on the Minx was just annoying, and, as you say, superficial. I'd say it took them an hour and fifteen minutes, Jim, but that includes a fish and chip break.

First, did they break-in the original unit they reviewed last year? I doubt it, but I continue to believe that few, if any, reviewers do that. Maybe CA should drive them for 20-30 hours in house before selling them. Seriously, given the dramatic changes that occur after initial use.

And a 4 x 4 meter room? Hell, my laptop could fill a 4 x 4 meter room. eek.gif
