Cambridge Audio Minx Satellite Speakers and Home Theater Systems Discussion Thread - Page 54

Cool thanks. I'll do some research on subs and see which would work. If anything I'll just stick to the x200.
Hey encendido5,

What Perpendicular said. To me the sound is also better regardless of volume.

For subs, here's a list you can look through, though it's rather extensive:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1364182/list-of-budget-subwoofers-300-and-less

That thread is just a list of sub $300 (I love puns) units, for an actual discussion thread there's this:

Thanks ien2! I ended up going with the S215 system with the Minx 11's and the X200. There was a used, like new set from Amazon Warehouse Deals with an over $200 discount over the new ones. I figured at this price, I could sell the X200 and get something else if it doesn't meet my needs. I just hope it hasn't been abused.

And thanks for the link on the subs, it looks like I have some reading to do smile.gif

Hi peoples im looking to get a 5.1 system for pc gaming and movies 80:20 ratio.

I got quoted $1800 Aussie dollars for

5x Minx 20s

1x x300 sub

1x Cambridge Audio 351r receiver.

I saved 1100 of the rrp. What do you think? Should I get the minx 21s instead of the 20s and maybe pay near full price?

My room is 10 by 11 feet. I think the x300 sub should be fine.
I can't wait to get back home to hook it all up smile.gif

The used, like new set looks brand new to me. It didn't look like it had even been opened. The outer box is scuffed up though so that may be why it couldn't be sold as new.

@encendidio - they look good! Why did you choose that amp?( im New to all this)

Is the min21 far superior to the min20? Should I just pay for the difference for the newer speakers?

will the CA Azur 351r do the job or is there another amp just as good or even cheaper?

In a 10 foot by 11 foot room should I stick with the 300 watt base or go the 500 watt?

I play mostly pc games.

Thanks for your help in advance. smile.gif

Question ... would (5) Minx 10 speakers (already have a nice sub) be a better choice than my existing HTIB JBL SCS 145.5 satellites? Already have a H/K receiver. Would do a 5.1 setup. Room size 14' x 13', home office/den.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Or even 3 of them for the front stage, and just using a set of small bookshelf speakers that I have already for the rears.

That looks like a good deal for that particular package. It would have to be your call but in that size room, you could easily get away with the smaller speakers Min 10/11.

I have not heard that system but I would say that yes, the Minx are better because I have yet to hear a Micro system that comes close in sound quality.

I would do Minx all around.

btw, make sure your Sub plays up to 140-150 Hz.
Okay ... thanks for the advice ... the Sub is a Klipsch SW110 if that makes a difference? - 28Hz-120Hz ± 3dB

What about the min20 vs min21?

S325v1 has a rrp of $1899 and the Azur 351r is rrp $999 and im getting them for $1800. (Australian prices)

I play alot of First Person shooter games and racing games. I would hate for it to be tinny and lacking.

Would you recomend the Azur 351r?

Im going to purchase tomorrow because im free tomorrow so Thanks for your help Perpendicular!!!

Your Klipsch will only play up to 120 Hz (FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 28Hz-120Hz ± 3dB). I would do a Min 21 but not a Min 10, Min 11 or Min 20 or you will be creating a hole.

Understood, thanks so much for your help, greatly appreciated.

Yes, the Azur is a very good AVR. I'm not sure the differences in prices but the Min 10 sells at a discount here in the U.S. at less than $50.00.

As far as the Min 10/20 versus the Min 20/21? I would not be doing anyone a favor if I didn't tell them to stay with the latest models. Yes, they are THAT much better.
Thanks for your help again!!!

So basically VERSION 2 all the way!!!

So tomorrow I ask about availability and price for cash on the following

S315 series 2
5x Min 11
1x X300

or

S325 series 2
5x Min 21
1x X300

If you dont mind perpendicular? if you had to pick 3 receivers which would you pick and why? (just in case I have to go cheaper or choose one that is in stock)

Thanks for your help again!!!

I have Champagne taste. I'd pick the brand I own, Pioneer, any of the SC series. The Arcam and CA Azur are good too. If all you play is games with some movies, you could get away with any good $500-600 AVR.

Marantz nr1402?

What about these brands?
Onkyo
denon
Yamaha

Thanks again bud! P

Waiting to play with new kit can be sooo hard smile.gif. At least this isn't too bad, purchasing skis at end-of-season sales really really suck, you have to wait half a year to play with them.

@hatlesschimp: For reference, I got my 21 for under $160 and 11's for under $75 at my local dealer (when you are out there haggling). I'm getting the x200 instead of the x300 but again for reference, I got it for under $355, perhaps you can expect at least 10% off of what Amazon is selling the x300 for too.

The Azur is a solid AVR. The local dealer showed it to me when I was looking at the Minx and it was rock solid. Even at high volume it didn't seem strained in the slightest, just clear and articulate as was at low volume. It doesn't come with DRC however, though that might not matter to you.

Thanks! It had the features I wanted for the best price was what it came down to. It is $399 on Amazon and I couldn't find another network receiver for less. It also has great reviews here and on several other websites. I looked at Onkyo and Denon, but a lot of people have had issues with Onkyo (although my 7 year old setup is still going strong), and Denon didn't have enough component inputs for my Wii and PS2 at this price range.

Haha, I can see that. The wait is almost over.

Nothing else I need to know? The shop opens in 30mins.

I was getting a cheaper deal originally because the Minx speaker set were the last of the old discontinued Min20 satelite speakers in stock. but after some evaluation time I opted for the newer and better version 2 with the updated bmr drivers that give a more full and rich sound and provide more of a crossover between them and subwoofer at lower range. Im yet to listen to the system but the reviews say the old min20 were great and the new min21 are pure awesomeness! :thumb:
I had the choice of scratch proof black or white and choose the black because it matched the Azur 351r AVR. I even got one of the Min21 speakers grilles changed to horizontal for the centre. The rest will be vertical. Now I've got to figure out how to mount and position them.

So all up I got from Steve Bennett HIFI in Geelong.

Cambridge Audio - Azur 351r AV Receiver = $919 Aud
Cambridge Audio - MINX S325v2 5.1 Speaker Set = $1799 Aud

That's great you decided to go with the Min 21. My Min 10's and Min 20's are sitting in storage out in the garage and I do not miss them. They'd be collecting dust if it were not for their boxes surrounding them. biggrin.gif

Great choice on the Azur 351 too. cool.gif
post #1616 of 1868
I hope they arrive tomorrow!!! I totally cant wait! Waiting till Monday would be the worst!

Im going to do an unboxing vid on it all and a pre burn review and another later when they have burned in. Because ive noticed a lot of people have bought them then been disappointed and not gave them the chance to burn in.

Just got to think how to mount them.

Thanks for your help again.
Tomorrow im going to try and find 4 stands for the min21s. Im renting where I am so cant mount to the wall. Is there anything I should avoid with stands or a particular style thats good?
Thread Starter
Velcro works great and can be used to attach to all sorts of things. biggrin.gif If you use stands, make sure they are the metric screw type. It sucks when the wall mounts and stands sold here in the U.S. use 1/4 - 20 threads and they sell the Metric style Minx satellites here. They make you purchase their mounts only which don't work very well with the Min 20/21.
Besides the imperial and metric thread type differences why do the min20/21s not go well?

Correction: I meant to say their wall mounts, not their speaker stands.redface.gif
