Thinking of getting Sharp LC60LE632U, opinions?

went to BestBuy and saw this tv Sharp LC60LE632U. it was looking sweet and the price was very good.

just wondering if there are any known issues with this TV other than the fact that you got to calibrate the TV settings before getting a good looking picture.

pros: No Quattron, Wi-Fi built-in, decent picture
cons: 60" edge-lit LED with no localized dimming of the edgelight

60" is too big for an edge-lit TV IMO.

I'm deciding on whether to purchase the Sharp 60LE632U as well.

Went to see it this morning and while the picture is not as good as many of the other 60" LED-LCD tv's, I thought it was "good enough", especially for the price. I also took a look at the 60" Westinghouse LCD at BB and thought it was NOT "good enough" - the picture quality was noticeably worse than the Sharp.

fatuglyguy makes a good point noting that this unit is edge-lit with no localized dimming, but I didn't see problems with that this morning. I am going back again tomorrow with some blu-ray discs to check on clouding, flashlighting and uniformity of the panel.

In my opinion, there many superior 60" units at BB, but none that come close to the current sale price on the 60LE632. And I also have a raincheck from last week's Fry's sale on this TV so I will save another 20% off the BB sale price!

I am looking for a TV that is "good enough", not "the best". Saw the Samsung 55D7000 today and I would put it in the category of "the best". That's the TV I would really like to purchase, but the price is considerably more and cost is a currently a factor in my decision making process. Wish it was not.

get last years model sharp 60 le 925 3d led tv. you can get it online for a few hundred more than you will be paying. have had this tv for about 4 months. the 2d hd picture is razor sharp nad the 3d picture is also awsome and it comes with 2 pair o 3d glasses.

I have owned the 60LE632U for about a week now and concur, it is certainly "good enough". Especially with 12 feet viewing distance, I think it moves a bit ahead of "good enough". It does appear to lack some detail when watching directv hd (even when compared to my 50c450 720p Samsung plasma), but if you aren't comparing side by side, you would be better pleased. Blu-ray and video games are beautiful and I'm sure you will be pleased (for this price).
With built in wifi, I think this model can be a bargain as I got mine for a couple hundred less than typical.
Sounds is average, and I notice a tad bit of darker image in the corners, but not distracting. When the directv receiver is turned off, you may notice some bleeding of light, but again not distracting in normal viewing.

Would anyone consider sharing their user settings? I feel I must be missing something to have such a disappointing picture.

I would be interested if they make a difference.

My wife wants me to take it back, and I don't want to box it all up.

Sorry I didn't see an owner's thread for this model.

Thanks

I've had this TV for about 2 weeks now and really like it, especially for the price. I haven't played much with the settings, just turned off the OPC stuff, but I find the picture really nice.

We've watched a few Bluray DVDs, some regular ones, and mostly HD cable channels. Not a problem.

Yes, there were a few TVs in this size range that I found a little nicer, but no where near worth $1500 more nicer.

Getting this TV tomorrow and can't wait. BTW anyone know which bolt to use for a wall mount to the TV. M5, M6, M8, etc?

Thanks in advance!

Just got this TV as well. Wondering if I should pay to have it calibrated. Anyone have their settings perfected yet?

Hi all. I'm a newcomer to the Sharp world as well as the DLNA world. I got everything set up. a) I have the wireless set up on the tv. b) i chose a UPNP application. c) the DLNA FINDS my macintosh b) once i convert the files to MPV, it plays the movies. All that is great and if that's the best life is, i'm definitely happy. BUT BUT BUT, i would be happier if I could figure out how to Pause, forward and rewind my movies. Note that I HAVE upgraded the firmware already successfully. I'm not sure if:

a) there's a better format to convert the files
b) Sharp is not the best product for DLNA and I should consider going to Samsung
c) None of the DLNA at this time have that ability.

Does anyone have experience with DLNA? if so, can anyone get the files to pause, ff and rew?

There is a DLNA standard, however which formats, codecs, etc each company wishes to support varies. As to which format would work with the 632U, I can't say for sure as mine is still in its box, but I don't like DLNA and what it has to offer due to the limited support on it. It seems more like a toy that you find at the bottom of a cereal box, just an added feature than something companies are willingly ready to jump at. I will say I do have experience with Samsung's implementation of DLNA and what they support, and it is no different. Of course, it also depends what software you use to serve the DLNA, configuration of the server, etc. Even if the file plays, you are not guarenteed that you will be able to FFW, reverse, or even pause/stop. I think the most I've gotten on a non-standard format was pause/stop and FFW, no reverse, as that is a very intensive process. However, I do believe it works pretty well with the mpeg-1/2 and 4 (xvid), and you may get all your features if I remember right. Of course, if you check their website, or a manual, usually they let you know what they 'support'. Which by support, they usually mean what will play, not if you can use the various functions.

For settings, you might try these http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post20980677

These settings are for a different tv, but I have a feeling both tv's are basically the same, and I debated which to buy. The 632 has the extra pixel (maybe turn that off with these settings), while the 633 has the 240hz (which is also turned off). Credit goes to ailevin for these settings. Be interested to hear if they work on your tv.
