Why do Panasonic model sizes differ per region? Why fewer sizes for high end?

Why do we not get a 50VT30 or a 46GT30 in Canada (and the USA?) ? I wonder further why there are no 46VT30 and yet Panasonic makes a 42VT30 available in the UK. I would prefer more higher end mid and smaller sizes. I'd rather have a 46VT30 or 46GT30 for my bedroom for instance....and a 60VT30 for my living room....just as a for instance.

I just feel there should be more options at the higher end....not less. I guess their thinking is that people buy more of the middle lines? I don't know. Anybody understand the thinking of sizes available for each model...particularly between different regions?

Yeah, it has to do with several factors; those that come to mind, foremost, are home sizes and economic considerations, which vary by region, of course.

For instance, in Japan, homes, which are typically apartments, are very small by U.S./Can. standards, so they sit closer to the screen, thus they don't need or even want, as big a screen.

Furthermore, sitting close to a smaller screen, (what we in U.S./Can. might consider 'medium-sized'), they can appreciate, and want to benefit from, the increased picture quality of a VT series, for instance.

Whereas, in U.S./Can., indeed, people who buy such medium-sized screens, are rarely anymore video enthusiasts, so it wouldn't be cost-effective to make VT series in anything 50" or less.

From what I've read, the 50" V series weren't selling that well in U.S./Can. during the past two(?) model years, anyway, as there were too many leftover TVs.

North American sales history over the past few years dictated the sizes and models for 2011. There is not enough demand for 42"/46"/50" higher end or flagship models. Witness the large number of surplus 2010 42" and 46" GT25s and 50" VT20s still being sold 6 months after they were discontinued.

Indeed.

However, though production may have stopped on those TVs 6 mos. ago (early Dec.), there was/were no viable replacement(s) for them until the ST30, which was only released ~3.33 mos. ago; still too much time with surplus, though.

Actually, not only would I like the option of a 46GT30, 46VT30 or 50GT30, but I would rather also have the option of a 60VT30....although it would still be quite the jump up in price from the 60GT30, probably a little more than the 60GT30. Oh well, I guess we have what we have and it would not be an option to import a different size from elsewhere, because the shipping and lack of warranty, or extra cost if you somehow bought a warranty, would make it prohibitive. That prohibitive cost for importing a size you want just makes you bite the bullet and go the next step bigger or compromise on size.

Interesting. Let's see what happens up here in Canada. The Canadian website still has a mix of last years models and this years models all on the same web page.

Sorry, my bad...I thought you meant 50" VT30's....I read too fast and my brain saw what it wanted to see.

We do have 50" GT30's in Canada, but no 46GT30 or 50VT30.
