24" Sony 3D Monitor bundle directed at PS3 owners - $499 - Page 2

Has anyone who did buy this have any success integrating it with an older receiver to keep surround sound? I am thinking about getting one of the Monoprice 1x2 splitters, but am not sure if it will pass the handshake to enable 3D on the display and send HDMI audio to my Denon 4810.

Short of getting a 4311 for the 1.4 pass through, is there any other workaround? I couldn't get it to output sound over optical with the multi audio out setting, but didn't mess around long enough to find out why.

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking. But I can say I have mine hooked up to all my audio equipment just fine.

My receiver is only HDMI 1.3, 3D is 1.4. If I plug in the PS3 display to my receiver, it won't pass 3D signals. I need to find out if a HDMI splitter will allow me to go from the PS3 to the receiver to get the HDMI audio, and a second cable to go to the display to get the 3D. I'm not sure if being connected to a splitter will cause the PS3 to see the receiver and not allow 3D when it does the HDMI handshake. On the monoprice website for the splitter, I found one review saying it doesn't work with a PS3, but others saying it works with 3D capable projectors. So I am asking here. I realize this product isn't really meant to be integrated into a home theatre setup, so I might just be out of luck.

My options are a $50 splitter, buy another PS3, or upgrade my receiver to HDMI 1.4 $2000. I'm hoping the $50 solution will work.

I see now. A buddy of mine tried to use a splitter. Had no luck. Only way it seemed to work was connecting it directly into the monitor. I'd imagine you have to have a receiver that allows 3D pass threw.

Update. I'm seeing issues with my monitor. I'm hoping it's just a bad panel. Getting a swap out in the next hour or so. Hope that does the trick.

Wow! Thanks for this! Will get this price match done for sure 1st thing in the morning. 300 is what I would pay for this. So that's a fair price.

Hmm. Turns out its actually an error. Price is suppose to be $399. But I'd imagine it you order it online they'd honor it. Just to site to store or just have it shipped to home. I'm still going to go into my store and hope for the price match. If not. I'll simply return the item and just buy it online at that online sale price.

Indeed you are! I'd advise anyone considering this set to grab it while you can. This price is great. I honestly believe nothing is better at this price. $500 was a little to much. New sale price is perfect. Hop on it!

I bought it with the PS3 for $499.99 plus $100 for the PS3. I came back and got a price match gaurantee credit for $100 when it dropped to $399.99. Dare I try again for another price match gaurantee credit for $100. I thought the first time I did it, it was a mistake since it was bundled with the PS3.

consider yourself very lucky. You shouldn't have gotten the 1st price drop to begin with.

You may be right. If I point it out they could take it away.

Well I went to Bestbuy out of curiosity. I asked the price of the display. They said $499.99. I pointed out the $299.99 on the web site. The sales guy said they would sell it to me for that. I told him I have one and would like my second $100 price match. I at this time did not mention the $100.00 PS3 bundle deal. He went to the manager. He gave the OK. I then gave them my receipt showing the first $100 refund and the bundled PS3. They gave me the second $100 refund.

I hope you find this helpful. Maybe my Bestbuy manager is very flexible with the rules.

It may have started because I returned the display twice because of damage to the exterior. It may have come up in their computer as a separate deal after that. I noticed the first time I went for the price match the service person put in the original receipt and it didn't go through. She then used the receipt from the second return and it went through. she may have, by doing that, inadvertently done me a great favor.

I guess I was dang lucky.

Yup. Funny you seemed to have damage on the panel. Do you remember why you had to exchange it exactly? Off color? Line bleed? I had to do an exchange because I saw a ton of DSE. Hoping it was just that one. I haven't opened the new one yet.

I'm trying to see if I can get a price match refund since the store I bought it from has a price guarantee going on until the 24th. Hopefully they'll give me a full $200 refund! *crosses fingers*

If you got it on the 13th of November and after then they will price match it. Are you in that deadline? I would imagine most people would be givin this display hasn't even been out very long... In fact. Didn't it come out the 13th? Or 17th? Anyone who purchased it from best buy should be able to get the price match!

The first one had some adhesive coming through between the glass and the plastic edge and a small scratch in another part of the plastic edge. The picture turned to full snow four times when I was first setting it up and updating the firmware. It may have been the hdmi cable was lose or defective. I didn't investigate it because of the cosmetic problems. Both together convinced me to return.

The second return was because the plastic sheet over one of the speakers was wrinkled pretty badly 2-3 inches. I didn't bother to continue unpacking it.

What's DSE?

Updating firmware on the ps3 or this? Is there a way to update the firmware on this set!?

DSE is Dirty Screen Effect. Best way I can explain it is the screen looks shiny with rainbow artifacts. Like when you get a tv a little wet. You see all kinda of colors. Well that's what I'd see with this set like crazy. I believe it might be called silky screen effect to.

Another problem I was having was just the overall image. It seemed muddy. Like the colors couldn't keep up with the display do it would smear on the screen. That annoyed me more then anything.

I was updating the PS3 to version 4.0. There isn't a way to update the display firmware as far as I know. There is no ethernet, wireless or usb connection.

I didn't see DSE and I examined the screen with magnifying glasses. I'm sensitive to dead pixels.

No rainbow effect. If I see the screens reflection on my computer window there is a rainbow, but I attribute That to the plastic of the window.

The hdmi cable says 1.4 HDMI Ethernet. Couldn't the monitor connect to the Internet that way?

I didn't think of that. I'll have to research that.

Every demo unit I have seen in the stores I thought looked muddy too, with low contrast and DSE.
