Energy RC micro speakers too small for a large living room?

I am considering buying a 5.1 home theater system called the Energy RC Micro system. I have a 18 foot wide living room and I am not listing the length, as my living room is connected to my kitchen, so it is for all intents and purposes infinitely long. My local home theater installer said speakers this small would not make me happy given that my living room is connected to my kitchen. However, on Cnet and Amazon, reviewers have said speakers this small pack a big punch. If I have a large living room, should I aim toward larger speakers? Your input is appreciated.

The installer is right - I would go bigger. I recently had a satellite speakers system (slightly bigger than what you are looking at) and was not happy with the fullness of the sound. I could play it loud, but it never felt full or "right". I just upgraded to bigger/higher quality speakers this past spring and I can tell you the difference is night and day. MY room is 18'D x 24'W x 11.5'H with a 6'' opening to kitchen/eating area that is another 28'D and 14'W

Hope this helps

So why are u enamored with these small speakers? Aesthetic? Budget? Do you need your audio to "hit" you, or you are more of the surround type as a long of you are in the middle of it, volume does not matter so much?

I dont like the volume up high, so having said this, would it still benefit me to get larger speakers? I was planning on buying the Energy Rc Micro's not for looks but due to price ($600) and rave reviews from Amazon and Cnet. Thanks for your input.

IMO I still think it matters no matter what volume you use. Properly sized speakers for your area is very important for sound quality.

What alternatives did your installer suggest?

There is no substitute for displacement when it comes to speakers. The largest speakers you are comfortable with will always be the best choice.

If you prefer not to have speakers on the floor, you can always wall mount.

BIC DV series...
Polk Monitor (II is a Newegg only series, there may be regular Monitor elsewhere)
Sony SS series(remarkably inexpensive...the SS-B1000 is only $60 a pair and would be a HUGE improvement over the RC Micro)

The installer wants to sell me Definitive Technology Procinema 800 5.1 system which has slightly bigger speakers but cost $600 more at $1200....Thanks for your input so far.

I am willing to shell out the extra $600 if it would make much of a difference however
