Odd audio issue AVR-1912

Thread Starter
So I just did a major upgrade to my home theater (AVR-589 to AVR-1912), and I am really impressed with the sound quality on my new reciever.

However, I notice that, when I watch TV especially, that there are times when the volume drops significantly then slowly returns back to normal.

My setup is as follows:

42" Panasonic Viera plasma 1080P (older model, I'm at work so I can't get the exact model number)
Time Warner Samsung SMT-3272HDC PVR box (using HDMI to the AVR, and HDMI out to the TV)
I also have various game systems (360, PS3) hooked up, and they don't seem to display this behavior, although this may be because the issue isn't as noticeable in sound effects as it is in speech.

I ran the Audessey setup (albeit not with a boom mic and such)

If I turn the Audessey settings off, the volume drops dramatically.

Any advice for a newb in the home theater world will be much appreciated.

First bit of advice would be you will be better served posting future questions in the Denon AVR-XX12 Owner's thread (link in my sig) where you can learn more about your 1912 as well as help others learn from issues you might be having.

What you are experiencing is likely an HDMI handshake issue which is quite common with Timer Warner cable boxes. Your best option to avoid the issue is to connect the HDMI directly to the TV with optical to the 1912 for surround audio.

Thanks for the info. And I will check out the thread you mentioned for more information.

This also frees up an input to setup as a composite input for my wii.
