Aton DLA6 with impedance matching controls

Hi, i'm installing a WHA system where the previous owner had run, from the home theater location, 16/4 to volume control locations, then 16/2 to the speakers.

I don't want to spend too much money, so i'm looking at hooking up my receiver "b" speaker outputs to an Aton DLA6 router with the rf remote, and maybe getting an Apple Airport Express for streaming.

My only problem is that I would like some volume control in each zone, since there are already mudrings cut out for it, and i don't want to leave blank covers over them if i can avoid it. Plus, a bit of local control would be nice anyways.

So i guess my question is, is there a certain type of volume knob i need to use since the DLA6 already has impedance matching, or are regular impedance matching knobs or sliders in series with the Aton OK? I might be able to get cat5 to a couple locations to use the Aton controllers, but not everywhere.

Also, i realise that if im using volume knobs i could just us a hub with impedance matching volume controls, but i like the extra features of the DLA6, like IR control with RF so i can control it from the patio, and the scene button as well.

If anyone can think of a better solution too, that would be more than welcome.

Yeah, if you could get cat5 to each of the volume control locations, you'd have a lot of possible solutions... But using volume controls in line with the speaker selector isn't a problem.

I have a DLA6 and it works great. Except that the source is in my media room, the one place where we don't experience our whole house audio....

I'm going to switch the source to an Apple TV and/or an Airport Express so we can control the music from one of our iPhones/iPads. However, I'll still need a better way to control the DLA6. I have control pads in some rooms, but not others, but would prefer to have the ability to control overall and zone volume from my iPhone. Plus I have an old stereo receiver for which I need to control on/off and master volume.

I'm thinking of using the iRule remote system with a Global Cache iTach IP2IR. Has anyone used this system to control a DLA6?

I'm using an iTach to control my Aton HDR44 - you'll very likely need the Xantech compatibility adapter from Global Cache to make it work (as I did). The iTach / GC-100 output a lower voltage than the "standard" IR - some devices won't recognize the signal without it. Adds $30 to the solution cost, but it should work after that.

Isn't there an IR receiver on the front of the DLA6 to which I could attached an old-school stick on emitter?

On another front, have you seen any irule screen shots of the UI for an Aton device?

No, I don't believe there is. IR receivers have to be wired into the rear panel IR input(s).

I haven't, but really haven't looked - since these are source/volume/on/off functions, control of switching/control devices are easily "hidden" in other keys. Just another action to tie to a volume / source selection / power button.
