I seem to recall in the early days of HD audio there were the ones with golden ears who felt that the very sharp high frequency filters required by SACD to remove the noise caused by the very high sampling rate of SACD had an deleterious audible effect on the audio that made this format "inferior". I am not one of those and enjoy both types equally.
I have never heard that but I definitely do not have golden ears
. Even if there was an issue I doubt I would notice it. I feel most of the SACDs I own sound excellent.
As for DVD-A players that cannot play SACD I would say they were few and far between and it's more likely it's players that can play SACD but not DVD-A and Sony had a few of them.
I think the best route for MCH music playback is a universal player so that all formats are covered.
