Had an interesting "happening" with my 55GT30 . . . thought you might be interested, so here it is. Has anybody else had the same or used the "reset" procedure??
Yesterday, when I turned on the TV, the picture had a strong
green cast such that 'faces' looked like they had taken a fatal dose of poison! Talk about ugly video . . . there's nothing worse IMO, than 'green' faces!
At first, I checked everytihng, connections, etc, and nothing was wrong. Of course, I recycled the TV's power with the same results.
Next, I changed the "Gdrv" in Pro Settings to a lower value; since it was apx "0", I lowered it to "-10" before faces looked somewhat OK. But still the video wasn't right. So after playing with the Pro Settings and/or SM W/B settings, the same lack-luster picture was there . . . albeit a bit better. However, the overall cast of the screen was still a bit on the GREEN side. . . very frustrating! I even changed the Custom settings to "Normal" instead of "Warm1". A bit better video but still "greenish".
So something must have died . . . or changed . . . or changed prior to dying! A logical conclusion IMO.
I've run out of "fixes" so I thought I'd try the "Factory Default Reset" procedure (outlined at the bottom of this post). I've never seen this in operation and it's interesting esp the results in my case. When this procedure is invoked, a series of "self-test" of individual major HDTV subsystems is completed and the results are displayed. All showed to be "OK".
When the TV was turned on, all was exactly as it was when I first turned it on. . . . ie, it erased all storage and all memory settings were as when the TV was brand new. So I had to go through the startup screens and even set up the OTA stations via an auto-scan. After that was complete, the TV showed video in the infamous "Standard" mode with default settings. Is that DARK or what?
A long story short, I selected the "custom" mode and changed the settings to the "jforge" ones (main menu) and after cycling though two satellite boxes and my OTA antenna, all was perfect . . . picture was as it was before the 'anomaly'
. It was so good that my Pro Settings contain all "0"s,
BION! There was no need to correct any setting?
That's puzzling but I like it.
Update - 7/3/12: Changes to Pro Settings:
Blu-Drv: -2Latest Update can be found by clicking link in my signature.Factory Default Reset Procedure:
1) With TV on, press MENU
button on remote while pressing the Vol minus
on side of TV.
2) Self test is completed and displayed on screen.
3) Press the POWER
button on TV until it turns off.
4) Unplug the TV's AC power plug and wait 30 secs.
5) Plug the TV's AC plug in and turn on the TV with the remote.
You will have to completely reprogram the TV including custom settings and HDMI ports, etc.Important fact: A "reset" does NOT reset values that you may have changed in the SM. The ONLY thing that a RESET does is to restore all factory defaults in the USER setting menus, NOT in the SM. To restore the SM to those as-delivered, you MUST have had them written down and then manually change them, before or after reset, it makes no difference.Edited by JForge - 7/3/12 at 3:02pm
