The Official Panasonic GT30 Settings Thread - Page 14

Picked up the 60" GT30 for a price that I couldn't resist, had my eye on this model for about 9 months. My model is an August build, and I was initially on the fence over whether to return it or not because I found the picture was just too dim until I came across this thread and applied the 2.1 firmware patch. Very nice improvement, and with Dave_O's settings I'm very happy now.

One thing I've come across in some articles is reference to the "Professional1" and "Professional2" picture modes. Has anyone been able to unlock those modes on the GT30, and if so can you share how? Some threads state to enable "Advance (isfccc)" in the setup mode, but I can't find this anywhere in my menu. Has anyone here been able to find these picture modes?

Glad you are enjoying your GT30 - just a reminder if you haven't already done so - make sure to re install the 2.2 firmware update after installing the 2.1 luminance patch. Regarding the "Professional 1 & 2" settings - I believe that those options are only available on European models.

I too prefer THX but after 2.1 they are very close overall. Post 2.1, THX behaves better in gamma performance at higher-than-default contrast settings (according to DaveO). I run mine at 65 with brightness at 51. According to DaveO, you can run it as high as 75 without any major issues with gamma after application of 2.1.

Absolutely loving Dave_O's mid panel settings post 2.1...really makes the set look 3-4x as good as it did prior to the tweaks...

I heard it was LG bringing out the OLED, and I had read that the cost could be 10,000 dollars

Another THX vote. The other settings I find produce crushing blacks whereas THX yields more shadow detail.

I do find the color settings on both (around 50) to be quite flat. Call me crazy but I like the set much better when the color is set to 65.

This will be the tv I will be getting, I have been looking for a new TV for 2 months now. I was wanting the 70 inch Sharp 3D but the cost was too high. I have owned a Samsung plasma in the past and have been happy with there product so I decided to go with the 64 inch 550 series. Two days ago I was in Visions Electronics and I saw the Panasonic 60 inch GT30 and was impressed with the picture quality. The salesmen even told me to go with the GT30 rather than the bigger and more expensive (not by much) Samsung.

I've had my latest GT30 since July and it's well broken in at this point. I did the D-Nice Panel Prep and used D-Nice's settings, until I did the 2.1 Luminance Patch, after which I liked Dave_O's settings.

For the holidays I got the Spears & Munsil Calibration Blu-Ray. I have an Oppo blu-ray, which does a great job, and I think it's good enough to be used as a decent "calibration tool". I have not opened it yet, but am I going to gain much by using this Blu-Ray? I mean am I 98% there and what I gain will be not noticeable?

My eyes are decent -- according to Xrite's test I score a 4 (http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?pageid=77&lang=en) for my age group isn't too bad.

I do not have any meter's or other type of tools.

Guess I'm trying to decide if it is worth the effort.

What is a decent S&M Blu-Ray workflow if I decide to try this out?

We have 2 OLED monitors in one of the tv trucks I work in and when I punch up "black" on my router, it looks like I turned the monitor off! Very nice. The best looking monitor I've ever seen.

Got my my 60GT30 earlier this month and have applied both the 2.1 patch and the the 2.2 firmware update. THX + Dave-O's settings seem to work as advertised, and that means my pq appears gorgeous for now... However, since I am greedy for more and even greater pq, I have been wondering whether there are any SM tweaks than can enhance my picture even more... So far, I have never been into the service menu. I did not apply D-Nice's settings or do the 100 hour prep since my understanding was that they do not apply after the 2.1 patch has gone into effect... Still, if there are any tweaks in the SM that can enhance my PQ even more, I would like to know them...

Make no mistake: I am quite happy with the results I have now, and can live with them if nothing else changes. But great pq is something I can't ever seem to get enough of, so my question is that if there are SM tweaks that can add to the quality of my already great PQ, why not implement them? Any helpful suggestions would be welcome, and thanks in advance for yours

I don't think anyone can tell you what settings to change in the SM at this point. If you didn't do the 100 slides, coupled with D-Nice's settings, I think you are down to having it professionally calibrated.

Or maybe there is some disc you can buy. I admit, I am a noob to most of this but pretty confident on what I said. Hopefully someone else will either confirm or correct my statement.

Well I have the Spears and Munsil hd benchmarks, the Disney WoW disk, and the DVE hd basics blu ray... disk... I wonder which one of them would work best in this situation! I have never been in a service menu before and wouldn't know what to look for... On the other hand, I could consider leaving the SM alone altogether and trying the tweaks with one of the disks I have. It's what I've always done with my previous hd displays (this is my 7th hd display, and I have never had any of them professionally calibrated... Nothing personal, but I often speak to the sales and floor reps at the local BestBuy and the level of "expertise" or know how most of them show do not inspire me much to pay their "Geek Squad" for a professional calibration, but of course, my attitude could be wrong)...

I’ve had my TC-P60GT30 for about a month now, ran the 100 hour breakin and applied D-Nice SM settings, No FBRs or Green or Pink issues to date. In a very dark room the THX PQ is excellent but a tad dim, if any light at all is present in the room THX is too dim. For daytime watching I have tried Dave_O’s pre 2.1 FW custom settings and find that while they are brighter I can’t get rid of the sunburnt flesh tone look (red oversaturation) and maintain PQ to my satisfaction.
If I decide to risk it and take the 2.1 FW plunge should I set my SM setting back from the D-NICE setting to the original factory settings before downloading 2.1? I guess this would only be an issue if the 2.1 FW changes the SM setting in any way?
Second questions, does anyone have THX calibration setting for the post 2.1 install GT30?
Thanks in advance for you help.

Do the dave o 2.1 settings need the dnice service menu adjustments to look good? Id rather not go into the service menu...or are they fine without the service menu adjustments

Those settings do not require SM adjustments.

Has anyone noticed an extremely dark "black crush" style picture playing netflix or Hulu Plus from your PS3. I've done 2.1 to 2.2 with DaveO's mid panel settings. This does not seem to be a problem with bluray material. Using the same HDMI input makes this frustrating. Just curious.

Just received my 60GT30 from Amazon tonight. Received a December 2011 build date so I was very pleased to see that. Getting the break-in slides ready to go now.

I've noticed the same situation playing Netflix through my Panasonic BDT-110, and also don't see it on Bluray material - I wonder if it has anything to do with RGB settings?

Possible. It may be better to utilize YCbCr if
possible to get around this--check to see if there is
a setting to force YCbCr on the player.

Also, if there is an RGB setting on the player
such as "video" or " limited" be sure that is enabled
and not "expanded" or "PC".

There is a setting for YCbCr, but last night watching a DVD, I changed to the RGB setting and it seemed to have slightly less harsh contrast, want to do more viewing on varied content to see if this approach makes sense.
