I am using an Actiontec "My Wireless TV" unit to get digital cable TV to this television from our Motorola cable box upstairs. It seems to work fine as far as the picture. However, I'm not receiving Dolby Digital audio (or at least it's not showing up on the receiver). Everything defaults to Dolby Prologic II Movie. I can go through the different audio options on the receiver (THX modes, all channel stereo, etc), but true DD 5.1 doesn't show up. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have the Actiontec unit connected to the receiver via HDMI.
Thanks for any help on this issue.

Press the display button on the top of the Onkyo remote and it will show you what audio signal it is receiving from your Actiontec.

Hmmm....I did that and it says I'm only receiving PCM 2.0. So the issue must be with the Actiontec not relaying the Dolby Digital signal properly?

Don't know anything about the Actiontec but it is not sending a DD to the 709.

Audio Issues

Setup: Samsung PN50C700, Onkyo NR709, Samsng BD-C6900, OTA Antenna.

I can get audio through BD/DVD input, however, no audio through TV/CD input. I have RIHD enabled. Any help enabling audio for the TV/CD input would be amazing as my wife is about to kill me.

Edit: Corrected, only one HDMI input was ARC enabled, switched input and worked.

REMOTE QUESTION

I am planning to give the Mrs. a heart attack and replace the Sony XBR6 with a SAMSUNG 6500 series LED and replace the cheap remote as well. The Universal remote i have is starting to skip the 709 when we go to shut down TV, Cable box and reciever. only the receiver doesn't shut down.

so, i ask, what have you all been having success with in operating the newer Samsung TVs and the Onkyo reciever? is the Harmony 900 the best option?

BTW, the 709 has proven much more reliable and even better sounding than the 707 it replaced. Spot on sound for TV and movies. awesome.

thanks

I have a Harmony One and a 700 and they both work just fine.

Hi all, I've got the NR709, and was just wondering if you can use the Zone 2 feature to change the speaker settings so that when you change seats in the same room, the speaker calibration also changes? Ie moving the sweet spot from the couch to the bed?

Thanks!
Audyssey calibration only applies to the main zone speakers.

Or rather, can I have the Audyssey have two calibration settings for speakers in Zone 1 (7.1 speakers), one for each listening position?
No ... there's only one calibration possible. Multiple calibrations are possible when using the Audyssey Pro software ($700) on Audyssey Pro capable AVRs (eg. Integra).
Damn, that's a bummer. Thanks

During the Audyssey calibration process, you do have the option to measure many sitting positions. Maybe calibrate one of the positions to you desired one and see how that sounds?

It's been a while since I last used that process, but I'll give it a shot.

Can onlu think at two things:
* The cable box is configured to send DD5.1
* The channel/show you were looking at does not broadcast in DD5.1

Hello,
I sometimes happens that when I press the stop button as I'm seeing a movie, the amplifier 709 is unable to resume the HDMI signal to play the bluray player menu. and the onkyo display i see "no signal"
This rarely happens but sometimes it happened ...
Has it ever happened to you? is a normal thing?
In that case, I press play again, then the player starts playing the movie, right after I press stop and then I can still return to the bluray player.
another case
or, start a movie and the player starts playing the movie, but the display on the onkyo I see the message "no signal"
I hope I explained myself, sorry for my English ...
bye

I've had a similar problem with my Samsung BluRay. It doesn't recover from a stop and I get a No Signal. The ONLY way I've been able to recover is to unplug the power to the 709 to reset whatever circuit has been confused. It's only happened 2 or 3 times but luckily my wife doesn't watch DVDs on her own. She'd never now how to shut off the panamax to "pull" the power.
hello,
thanks for the reply,
My bluray player is a pioneer lx55.
But my opinion is not the fault of the player, but the 709.
I'm just not sure about this.
In my case, do not block anything, but the player and the 709 does not seem to communicate through the hdmi ..

Once it happened that I turned the 709 remained in the display "hdmi start up". In that case I had to turn it off and on again. But it was not locked because I could select USB and play music, but not linked with the player.
This thing has only happened once in 8 months that I have the 709 ...
Just that it's already happened several times that the 709 does not receive the signal from the player.

I would recommend setting your Picture Mode to Direct, to see if that helps. If you have your video processing of the 709 active then when the signal changes from the BR player, when you press stop, it may be handshake negotiating having trouble with changing back to 1080p/24

If you already have it as Direct, post your settings for Menu 1.1 Resolution, and your Picture Mode etc.

There are lots of options, so better if you give more info ...smile.gif

hello,
thanks for the answer!
My settings are:
Resolution: through
Picture Mode: Custom
In the past this problem had never occurred .. that may depend by the update firmware I made 2 or 3 months ago?

Within Custom, what is the setting of Resolution?

When the problem occurs, what does the 709 show when you press the Display button on the RControl? Ie, what Video signal does it think is being input? What is being output?

As suggested previously, try Direct, and check the video Input/Output signals the 709 is seeing as above.

Hi,

Within Custom, what is the setting of Resolution?
the resolution is always set to "through" sorry, where should I look?

When it loses hdmi signals in 709's display shows "no signal"..
But if it were a matter of settings why this problem occurs only sometimes, but most of all the settings have not changed since I bought the 709.

I will follow your advice and I'll change the menu "picture mode" from custom to direct.
I wanted to ask, what changes in the "picture mode" setting between "through" and "direct"?

Thank you

My suggestions were to help diagnose/isolate the problem. See page 44 & 54 of manual.

P44 shows the Resolution. I think I understand you have this set to Through.

On p55, you are currently using Custom, try Direct.

And just to confirm, when everything is working fine on the display, does pressing Display button on Remote Control show Video input and output as 1080p/24hz?

I assume your TV /projector shows the same?
Hi,
Yes, my resolution p44 is set to through.
I'll try setting the "direct" (manual p54) ...
and I will verify the input and output resolution of 709 and my projector ...
As soon as I did the tests let you know ..
Meanwhile I'll try to see if the picture mode on "direct" the 709 still loses the signal ..

Thanks so much for your answers!

How do I reconnect my Onkyo TX-NR709 to the internet. It was working perfectly last week when I had to do a hard reset of my router and updated my 709's firmware.
I can connect it to my network 70% signal to router which is better than it was when it was working before, then I had 41-60%.

Connect to router:
PC-hardwired
2 Macbooks-wifi
PS3-wifi
Epson printer-wifi
Onkyo 709-wifi no internet

What am I missing?
I had the 606 and used the BR player HDMI directly to the TV and used the coax digital out for the receiver. Now with the 709 and the same BR player, I can't any sound from the receiver. The setup is straight forward like the 606, but no luck getting any sound.

Any ideas?
Is the BR connected to the 709 with coax? If yes, why not just connect HDMI directly to the 709?
I guess that will be my next step if I can't get this working. I guess I've alway worried about signal loss/noise making the extra connection.
After talking to Actiontec some how when checking the setup ports without making a change it started working. So I'm happy for now, I hope it doesn't happen again.
