What are you trying to do? HDMi audio normally does NOT go out the "audio jack" of the TV. Why would you even want to do that?

I just got the 82740 and needed a stand badly, as the stand I used for my previous Mits 60" was way to high. I found the perfect solution at Ikea yesterday. It's the Lack tv stand, for $50. It's the perfect height at 13". Great build quality and comes in 3 colors.

Is this for live TV via antenna? Again licensing normally prevents digital audio from any source besides antenna from going out the optical port, particularly multi-channel. Normally you go straight from your source to the receiver of your audio system.

The reason for asking this is, I have tried these out with my tv, denon avr-1912, and sony PS3 and the 3d does not look that good(no real depth)
Or is there some setting I am missing?

I have a 61" 1080p Sammy from 06, HL-S6187W model...and basically what i want to know is how do the Mitsubishi 82s stack up too it. Im sure it kicks ass, its not that im asking but what i mean is can i assume that what i see on the 61" right now would look the same on an 82 or is it even "better"...in terms of quality with these newer DLPs?

And do you guys feel that DLP is most definitely the way to go, i think the tech is great..ive never had one issue with my DLP.

Also, who games on theirs...im assuming its pretty incredible.

SD looses a bit when the size goes up. If your room will not be subject to reflections the 82840 will produce amazing results. I bought the 92" and am quite pleased. It is better in almost every way compared to my 2009 82". If your room has a lot of light shining on the screen stay away from the clear screen 840s, and go with the 740, otherwise they rock, they are just so much sharper. By the time you get to the 92" a lot of the crummy news clips off camera phones that CNNHD likes to run from the war zone of the hour can be a mess. I did not notice nearly this nearly as badly on my 82".

If you have the right lighting the 82840 will produce an excellent image and will be even brighter than the 92840 which is way brighter than my 2009 82837 was/is. Kind of amazing since the lamps are the same wattage.

This is via HDMI from the PS3 "passing through" my Harman Kardon 3600 AVR.

With PS3, under the "display settings", it supports 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Since Skyrim does not support 1080p, the console upscales the 1080i (540-lines per screen shot) to 720p (720-lines per screen shot). It does so in the written programming for the console. However, the PS3 (or any other electronic device) cannot upscale from 1080i to 1080p. The conversion cannot make up for that amount of loss per screen shot. So, that is why the PS3 console reverts the screen resolution back to 720p from my settings of 1080p. 720p is a higher resolution per screen shot than 1080i, and since it cannot render up to 1080p, it chooses the next higher resolution setting.

I think whats making me torn is i havent yet found a model locally to check it out.

Heres a question though, just off general consensus....is it fair and safe to say that the 82"s are pretty much outside of the size obviously, but quality of the DLP picture leagues ahead of the 06 HLS models simply by default?

I am only asking as many questions as i can simply because most likely if i do buy one it will be without visibly seeing it.

Now back to the vertical viewing angle conundrum. The "perfect" stand for my situation doesn't exist. It just doesn't. Aesthetics aside, as mentioned before, I don't want a stand as long as the TV because I wouldn't be able to get behind it to the cables and what not. I have a ton of stuff and will need to be able to crawl behind the TV, with a stand that allows the PC on one side and sub-woofer on the other while the equipment on the actual shelves i can pull out the woofer or PC to crawl/slither back there if needed to get to things. The TV is kind of in a corner, large room, but trust me, too wide a stand would be disastrous in getting to anything behind it (bad back too, but can slither, just can't lift stuff).

This stand is 22" depth, can hold the 200 pound weight of the 92" TV, is very open for ventilation, the only negative is the height. It is "less" negative than the negative i spoke of on the stand two pages before, but it is still too tall compared to what the optimum vertical viewing angle would be. It is 25". That would place it about 12 to 13" too high? I could remove the stands caster wheels, reducing maybe 2 more inches, but that would be at the cost of any and all mobility and possibly cost of some stability as well. I just did not see any other stand options out there that were deep enough (20+ inches), supported the weight (200 pounds on top shelf), open enough for ventilation proper, were not too wide for me personally and what I wanted (42"-45"), AND not too tall in height...

Reading what was mentioned before... options are

furniture raisers... could add 4 to 6 inches; but from what I saw they looked ghastly and would have to be put under every single chair and sofa to be effective.

floor platforms... like in home theaters, could add some height, maybe 8 inches but a lot of effort, maybe not for all the seats, and could get quite costly and/or labor intensive

tilt the TV... if there were a way to "safely" pull this off this would be the preferable way to go, but it is by far the scariest. How much of a raise or tilt up on the back end would be needed to offset the 12 or 13 inches in height I am exceeding from the stand? an inch? 2? Could a mount be installed to the back of the TV and cables used to secure it to the wall? I can just picture that.... lol...I tried explaining all this to my fiancee. Her comments were along the lines of... "You mean to tell me you would go to all that trouble just for an extra inch or two?".... I laughed, at first she didn't get it... LOL

Truth is the lower you get it, the better the brightness, the better the color. I am at 15 inches on this stand and I had a discussion with the wife about a custom stand. Yes, we are talking about just a couple inches between friends.. She definitely did not see the point... I want to embellish the joke at this point but it is probably wiser if I refrain.
