I do see similar effects with the ESPN logo is rendered in Red and White. It looks like bad deinteralcing but this is from a progressive source and the TV is not doing any of the scaling to get it to 1080P. ESPN is coming off a Tivo HD.

The scaling is done by the ABT chip in the DUO which is very solid and done before it is sent to the 92840 so it has to be the TV.When the logo is rendered in other colors say teal and white it is not artifacted.

Using my desktop 37" Panny LED and going through Windows Media Center from a Ceton.. the artifact does not exist.
It is more complicated than just white and certain saturation red being adjacent. CNNHD has a verys has the same color shceme and puts up similar looking logos but it does not artifact. CNNHD is 1080l

. I see something like 47 ft lambers on the 92 on the last auto-calibration run through. I am slightly over 300 hours now so it is time to do it again.

Yes. Very slightly. I'll have to look up the final figs, to be sure. From what I recall 100% window was mid 50s ftl which is a lot brighter than my 73738 which is low 40s. So either this year has more wattage or more efficiency. Either way color me impressed on the light output on that size tv.

You can buy one on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Emitter-Compat...7664198&sr=1-3

Search on "IR Emitter Compatible with Mitsubishi 3D DLP TV's" by Dimensional Optics if the link doesn't work.

I use this emitter http://ultimate3dheaven.com/3dtrformisa3.html and it's only $20. It works with 2010 Mits/Sammy glasses.

I applied firmware update 13.05 last night since I read that it enabled 3D movies in VUDU.

I haven't watched an entire movie yet, but the 3D trailers looked good to me. My internet speed is right on the border where I can use HD or HDX, so I tried the trailers in both settings and was satisfied with either.

I will use my free credit to watch an entire movie this weekend.

Only thing that I can think of that's a bummer is that the Digital Coaxial Audio out on the TV is limited to regular DD or DTS, where my blu-ray player can pass DD+ but does not have VUDU 3D even though it's a 3D BD player?!?!

Hello all,
I've a frequent lurker to this thread as many others and have found very valuable information and advice. Seeing as this is my first post, please forgive me if the etiquette isn't quite up to par. So here is my issue:
I purchased the Mits WD 82740 on December 26, 2011. It was delivered on Jan 11, 2012 in a box without any visible damage or even faint scratches. Upon inspecting the screen after opening the box, again there was no visible damage (not even a fingerprint smudge, etc. from when it was packed). The TV turned on and a great picture appeared, so I signed the delivery reciept as accepted and checked the box off marked as "no damage".
Now having previously owned the Mits WD 65736 and frequenting this forum and others, I knew that geometry could (and usually) is off but can be corrected. In this case the geometry was off when some form of a straight appearing line (door/threshold, banner/box ad, light pole/stop sign pole, football yard lines, etc) was running vertical at both the 4:3 aspect ratio region and half way between that and the center of the viewing area. The center and far edges of the viewing area were straight vertically in the same situations and all horizontal lines appeared fine as well. I had the service manual for my Mits WD 65736 and from this thread read where the service code to get to the manual geometry was the same, so I proceeded to adjust the geometry and got it much better. However, the viewing area between the 4:3 lines and the center (not at the 4:3 or center) still have bowing issues (see first pic).
Scouring the first 20 pages of this thread, I believe a few posters mentioned that the back of the TV seemed to have a concave shape. Those posters also got replies that the concave shape isn't normal and to send it back (again the memeory is fuzzy). My previous Mits WD 65736 had a perfectly flat/straight back and so I am thinking that the issue I am having with the region between the 4:3 lines and the center is due to that concave indenting (see 2-5 pics). I will have an ISF certified calibrator coming out in about a week and half and he said he can address the geometry issues. My concern is due to the concave back, even he will not be able correct it and I will always have that slight but noticeable bowing in that part of the viewing area. Am I just overly concerned at this point? If not, I want to go ahead and start a return/repair process with Mitsubishi (the TV was purchased new at an authorized dealer as listed by Mitsubishi's own website).

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated!

PS. I hope the pics are okay. When I post and review this I will get better ones or make the attached ones bigger.

I could have posted the exact same concerns. My geometry looks exactly like yours. After being unsuccessful trying to adjust the geometry via the service menu I attached a suction cup to the center of the screen. By pulling it towards me slightly I could "straighten" the vertical lines but as soon as I released the suction cup the sreen would "flex" inward again. A friend has an 82740 also and his set does not have these issues. I called Best Buy and arranged for a replace/return of the set. I am willing to try one more. When my TV was being delivered I saw it standing on end on the pavement. The box states do not use a hand truck,ie. don't stand it on end! There was no visible signs of damage. I wasn't aware of the concave back issue. I will compare mine with mmy friends.

so that will work with my 2011 mitsubishi even though in 2010 the tech used for the tv was made by samsung and now the tech is made by panasonic in the 2011 models?

will there be any difference in quality between girdnerg one for 20 and DiamondDaves for 38? they will both work? i guess i dont understand the logic behind the 3d tech i know samsung works on all their models that dont sync through bt and same for mits even though mits was made by sam and now is panasonic will those emitters still work even though the samsung glasses dont pair to the tv's internal emitter, will this emitter par and make all 3 work together
please forgive my stupidity/understanding of the technology in place here i dont know how it works and i just got my 73 from hhgregg and have been dealing with this for 5 days now all day non stop
i was going to buy he wd640 for 980 but then saw the wd840 was 1200 and had the built in emitter since all the glasses and emitter would have tacked on another 350 any way i figured id save the money and boy was i far off
they dont even have the stuff in the store for it to work i cant imagine that all the customers go through this

i know the xpand 103's will work but what im trying to do is not have to go buy all new glasses because i already have 3 pair of the samsung ssg2200ar glasses and if i can sneak by only having to buy a 20$ emitter id like to do that since the cheapest glasses ive found through xpand are 50$ i dont know however if i buy an emitter will it be the same signal that comes from the internal emitter built into the tv or will it be the proper one that the samsung ones us and will be a different signal than what the tv outputs in short will it work between the ssg2200ar's and the 2011 wd 73840

Not much to say, with this product, you best know what you need before ordering it. As far as working, yes, the emitter I purchased is working as designed. Its a pretty simple product designed to work with a Mits 3D TV specifically. This particular emitter is from Dimensional Optics and is designed to work with Dimensional Optics 3D glasses. If thats not you, don't buy it, if it is and you are purchasing the COMPATIBLE Dimensional Optics 3D glasses, this is the product for you. Plug and play with this one.

is the review from a customer who purchased the amazon glasses that cost 38 which leads me to believe that they wont work with my glasses and tv set

If your glasses are compatible with a 2010 IR based samsung/mitsubishi 3D TV, then the emitter I linked to is all you need.

Go to that page, you will see the glasses right below that are for 2010 samsung/mitsubishi TV's. I bought those glasses and the emitter and am using them with my 73740.

Read what's at the bottom of this page, http://www.ultimate3dheaven.com/dlp3dwiglfis.html, it specifically discusses what you are worried about. It states that the glasses are a direct replacement for the ssg2200ar's or can be used with them. It then links to the IR emitter I suggest you buy. It then discusses the 2011 mits dlp's.

We will have to come up with some other form of compensation as my wife will frown at the Asian prostitute, plus shipping her to Oklahoma would be cost prohibitive.

Its in a pretty nice sized bedroom here man...the crazy part is that this had to go up a fairly tough set of steps and make 2 pretty ridiculous turns.

My dad was just not able to get the job done, so i had to get my cousin to help me finish the job and its simply incredible...absolutely stunning man, im just in awe of this thing.

Gaming on it as well is unreal, im waiting for Kingdoms of Amalur to get here on feb 7th and i am so stoked i got my tv for it!!

That is most of it, although most people weigh the decision between the 82740 and the 82840. Read back several pages and you will find a lot of discussion about this, and then you can make an informed decision. If you have a good light-controlled environment, the Clear Contrast screen is thought by a lot of us to be a pretty big deal. The budget part (and as you say, who isn't on one?) is a tougher call, but several people have been getting really good deals lately on the 82840. Again, read back a little.

The 82840 can be bought much cheaper than that! People in this thread have paid over a thousand less.

Pitcture quality and brightness are not remotely comparable. Nichols reported calibrating and 82840 and it made much more light than his 72838. Also the color accuracy on the new sets are dramatically better. There is a bug that effects at least some if not all the 2011 models. It degrades pitcure quality to some degree. Still, night and day difference in brightness and color accuracy on the Clear Screen 2011s versus a 2010.

let me guess youre one of the people who voted for SOPA and approve of internet censorship, why pay for what i can get for free most of the movies youre able to torrent are already on dvd for 5 bucks a walmart so really the people im taking money from is apple, walmart, the dvd company, and thats pretty much it at that point, i dont count the 46 cents the producer makes at that point but hey to each their own if you have money like that (stands and gives ovation)

My 82740 is almost one month old... in this time period, the TV has powered itself off on two different occasions. Both power offs happened after about 12 hours of TV viewing... and both happened after I connected my set to a Panamax 1500 power conditioner/surge protector.

The TV cycled itself off pretty much the same way it normally would. The green dots blinked real fast and then after a short while I heard a double click. However, I didn't hear the fan running, which I always do when I turn it off.

I want to love this TV so badly, but just fear that DLP is fraught with problems the other technologies aren't. I had two big box CRT's that had no issues. My old 57" box is 8 years old and still runs fine. Less than a month into my DLP ownership, I've experienced two random shutoffs.

Is there anything that could be causing this and is it an easy fix? Or..did I just get a lemon?

where where where?

i go mostly by amazon, since generally their prices are best and their a known quantity. i've browsed for the 82840 via google's 'shopping' search just now - best price i see is $2299 at Actual Electronics - but the website seems a bit dodgy. dunno. i'm not in a hurry to buy - i'm guessing that prices will drop in the week run-up to superbowl.
