If it's that important to you here is an idea of size. My 11 year old is about 5 foot tall. I will take pictures I'm a few minutes to show pictures with curtains open and closed.

The first few images the curtain was open. I close them for the last couple. I still have a window next to the tv I need to get blinds for.

Please tell me how tall the stand is that you have the Mits on. I have a 73733 on an 18" high stand and it seems about the right height but I think I could also put an 82" on the stand and it wouldn't be too high. Have you found the picture to be bright enough; some people with the 2010 thought the picture was a little dark. Thanks.

The tv stand is: Plateau CRX-2V 64'' TV Stand in Black. I believe the stand is 16.5 inches tall. As for the picture. . . I saw last years 82838 in person today at a local store. I couldn't believe the difference between the two televisions. I would not have bought the Mitsubishi if I had to buy the 838 model. The 840 with the clear contrast screen is very bright. The picture is crisp and clear out to the edges and at all angles. The 840 is as clear when you are standing as it is when you are seated. Really haven't noticed a "sweet spot". The 838 was very dull by comparison. In happy I waited and went with the 840. The screen makes that big of difference.

Can anyone who has seen the 73740 (or any of the 740 series) TV compare the glossiness/reflectivity of the screen with the pictures posted earlier?

My 62525 is being replaced with a 73740, and the old TV had a removable "Diamond Shield" that was just a clear sheet of plastic to protect the screen. I actually removed it until my first child was able to put his hands on the screen. This shield was fairly reflective too, and I am curious how it compares to the reflectiveness of the screen on the 740 and 840.

The television I replaced had a shield over the screen. I can tell you the clear contrast screen is far more reflective than my old television. Also it has a much brighter picture than my old tv.

Thanks ETERNIA FORVER for having our backs on wanting some pics up! The new glossier screen is exactly what is concerning alot of us. And it's nice to get some pics of it. So thank you to you uplandhunter for posting some!

It appears as though the screen could be an issue if the room is moderately bright. You definitely want to have the room somewhat dark it seems in order to get by the reflectiveness of the screen. It does seem as though it does help improve the PQ of the TV having it though. The images on the screen are very vivid and just POP out at you.

Yes it is very reflective. But from what I saw today of the 838 I am very pleased of this tv.

Yadfb, I think you can see by my earlier posts I am extremely happy with the picture quality the 840 offers. I have also stated in the past that the screen is extremely reflective. It will offer a glare in a moderately lit room. The pictures I took were this morning around 11:00 A.M. The french door and window are in a walk out basement with East exposure. The sun was almost exactly overhead when I took the pictures. I hope this answers your questions.

Dull and dark. The 840 has a far superior picture. To compare the two it's like night and day.

So they stopped making the 65" in new models? Good God that sucks so much I really do not want to have to stick an LCD/Plasma in my in wall entertainment center. Might have to jump on the 838 before they are all gone. My 61" Sammy still works but the color wheel and lamp both need to be replaced (wheel is humming and brightness has diminished over the years) at some point.

Yup 1st the 57 and now the 65, i guess mitsubishi feels they have to stay above the lcd/plasma size wise to compete, shame to becuse mitsubishi has been around a long time, and bein there lcd tvs are not that talked about in the past, i wonder if they got some secret lcd tv in the works that will revamp the company to its once held glory or will they just go away once dlp is no more

I am interested in your opinions regarding 3d glasses for this years model of mits televisions. Should I buy last years ir 3d package or wait for the new ones to come out?

From 4/15/10 I guess it took longer than Mitsubishi had figured to fully develop the X103s.

The video I'm playing is 1080p. The youtube video is recorded at 720p

It's mid-afternoon in Southern California. The sun is hitting the back of the house, coming in on my right side. I do not have black-out curtains and only draw the blinds on the back side. So this is normal ambient lighting for this room at this time of day.

The temporary stand I'm using is 19.75" high. I feel the screen is too high but taking out one of those sections would put it too low. This will work, temporarily. The very top of the screen is at 68.25"

Just picked up the 2-day old floor display 82840 from HH*** G for 2800 plus 5% off for signing up for their 24 month interest free CC. and a full 5 year warrenty for 270. Take delivery on Friday...cant wait.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've got my geometry decent. Unfortunately, the frame is pretty flimsy so it's hard to get the geo perfect.

BTW - I accidentally selected all the restore menu options. No damage was done. Your mileage may vary off course.

The new design with the reflective screen is a BAD idea. My laptop has that same design and anywhere there is light I get glares and reflections, it really sucks.

Mitsubishi should have rethought that design. Unless you have a completely dark room with no outside light, the screen will have a lot of reflection and glare.

Looks like I will be buying LAST YEARS model with the matte screen.

What were they thinking?
