Thanks

Thanks for the info. The HSN deal also includes the wireless adapter.

HSN uses a company called aitworldwide.com to ship these TV's. link below gives more info. they will call you a few days prior to delivery.I told them I would be here and was willing to help unload it so they only sent one delivery guy- up to you but I would suggest anyone getting these units via delivery, make sure prior to signing the delivery tickect you slide the top part of box off and inspect TV /power it up. you can do this in minutes. Also what made this deal sweet for me (depends on your state ) was no Sales TAX!

So, I currently have a 2009 73" Mitsubishi set. I do NOT yet have the add-on 3D box.

I plan on buying the 2011 92" model. I will keep the 73", and want to the option to watch 3D content on both sets.

So... My questions... What should I buy for the 2009 model, and what glasses are recommended? I want the glasses to work with both sets seamlessly/automatically.

(Apologies if this is a repeat question... I could have sworn I asked this before, but I can't find it!)

You need the adapter 3DA-1.

If you get the 3DG-1000 kit you get the adapter and a IR emitter and glasses that will be compatible only that IR emitter.

If you just get the adatper, you can get 3DG-EX103 that are sold separatly and you get an IR emitter for 2009 model and one pair of glasses.
http://www.amazon.com/Mitsubishi-3DG.../dp/B0054QGNK6

You can then add glasses 3DG-X103 (just the glasses). The glasses are compatible with the internal IR emitter in the 2011 model.

Or if you get just the adapter you can get any DLP Link Glasses and those will be comptible with both TVs.

BrettStah,

I've been doing a lot of 3D Glasses research over the last couple of days... so I'll tell you what I think... but keep in mind that I don't actually have any yet. LOL

I believe the Xpand X103 will be your best option. You can find them on Amazon for around $50/pair, maybe even less on eBay. They are universal and compatible with the largest number of TVs, yet do not suffer from the "green tint" issue found with some (or all possibly) DLP-Link glasses. I don't know if your 2009 set would support DLP-Link anyway.

The downside to that approach would be the X103 glasses might have to be reconfigured to switch between TVs because of the different emitters. Reconfiguring involves holding down a button on the glasses, so not a huge deal.

The easiest option, (but not least expensive) would be to simply buy the same emitter for both TVs. The 2011 models still have a place to connect an emitter (even the ones with a built-in emitter). Then you'd be guaranteed to be able to just move from room-to-room without ever touching the glasses.

The 2009 model does support DLP Link, all Mitsubishi 3D TVs support DLP Link.

However the 2009 mode does not have the internal IR emitter that is needed for the X-103.

He can use the 3DG-EX103 which will get him a compatible emitter. The X-103 are compatible with the emitter for the 3DG-EX103 and the internal IR emitter in the 2011 model 92" that he is considering.

Yes, if you click the link I provided, they were to the 740/840 specific ones (which are likely the same as the Panasonic ones, but I'd stick ot the ones with our actual model# in the description).

4 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CON626/
6 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007L5DBDU/

At first I was confused why there seemed to be a premium for buying multiple pairs... but then I realized that you only get the A/C adapter for the USB with the bundles.

Does anyone know if the A/C adapter for the iPhone would also work with these glasses? I have several of those already, and even one by the TV.

I got a reply from Dimensional Optics regarding their glasses (the ones I linked a couple of posts up). I thought I would share the answer in case it helps anyone:

My question:
I have a Mitsubishi WD-73740. Your site is very clear that these glasses: http://www.dimensionaloptics.com/Pro...spx?p=A1S01263 work with my TV, but my question is: Do they work via the built in IR emitter, or do they use DLP-Link? I assume no external emitter is required even though the "Compatibility and Comparison Chart" link implies that it does. I have also heard pros and cons of each technology, so do you have an opinion on DLP-Link vs. IR?

In my opinion, the IR signal is a much superior technology. There is a constant signal going to the glasses which results in consistent functionality. With DLP link, it uses light from the display to sync the glasses. This sometimes causes problems during certain scenes of a movie/TV show where the light coming from the Movie messes with the DLP signal and causes the glasses to malfunction. This problem does not exist with an IR emitter.

If you have further questions, feel free to give sales a call.

I think I have decided to go with 3ACTIVE. Thanks everyone for the crash course in 3D Glasses and related technologies.

There were better deals at one point, maybe still are if you really look for them. I will say though as someone who paid much more for a 2009 82"... My 2009 is a giant pile compared to an 82840.. So in absolute terms I think it is still a very good buy. When you compare it to the price of 92840 it is a screaming freaking bargain. For most people wo can sit at a reasonable distance from the screen the 82840 is the better and much cheap of the two big clear screen displays. I have no choice but to sit 14 feet away so the 92" was a must.

The 82840 makes much more light than the 92840 and you have more flexibility on stand height. My 92840 is on a 15" stand and everytime I get up from my couch my eyes hit the sweet spot on the 92 and it gets brighter.

An ideal stand for the 92" is around 12" tall. You don't need that short of a stant on an 82840. Content, SD and HD, will be noticeably crisper on the smaller screen.

I am guessing that native geometery maybe better on average on the 82s as that was stiffer chassis, at least my 2009 is.. While the 92840 is one heavy beast and quite well built the chassis on the 2009-2010 82s was just more robust. I can only assume the did not redesign the chassis on the 82" for 2011. I could be wrong but it seems unlikely.

im in the same boat...been looking around for about a month and the best price ive been quoted is $2299. hoping i can negotiate a better deal this weekend, being that its the end of the month and salesmen should be pushing harder to make the sale.

That might actually be next month as Mitsubishi is getting ready to launch the 2012 lineup. From what people here have said, April is the month they start launching their new lineup, so the old models probably will have another big "spring sale" and one big push at the start of summer.

Today's ebay deal of the day is the 92840 for . . .

$2,999 plus free shipping.

How bad do I want to stay married?

Sorry if I've violated the rules - I couldn't resist.

Wow... thanks for the info, guys! The weird thing is that if you go to tiger direct's website, they have it for a thousand dollars more than their ebay store price!

Oh yeah, my wife says to tell you guys that she hates both of you.

I am surprised there is no "Great Found Deals" for rear projection TV. We have those for LCD and Plasma. Then we will be free to mention prices.
I have often wondered that, myself.

Don't be surprised if they are not on display in New York City (Manhattan). The city apartments are not the prime market for these TVs. Even if they fit properly in the room, they are hard to delivery etc. I bet the other boroughs or NJ would be more likely.

Short version. I just ordered my glasses, and I got them for a steal. As of today, the 3ACTIVE glasses made specifically for the 740/840 series are on sale via Amazon (significant savings):

1 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007COR4AG/
2 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CNV0QQ/
4 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CON626/
6 pair: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007L5DBDU/

Long version (skip this if you don't care):
I think I may have had something to do with them going on-sale. I have had an email thread going back and forth with their customer service, a guy named Tom that is VERY helpful and responsive. I was about to order last night when I noticed the Panasonic ones were on sale. Remembering what DiamondDave said about the Panasonic ones working with our TV... I thought "hmmmmm". But since I had this email thread going already, I asked Tom if there was any difference. Tom confirmed that the Panasonic ones were in fact the same, and that it would be fine... but then he went on to let me know they've been getting a lot of returns from the older Mitsubishi ones, and was wondering if I'd be willing to order the ones on sale, but put an Amazon review on the 740/840 version to raise awareness so hopefully less people would inadvertently order the wrong ones. Then by the time I got on my computer tonight to place the order... the 3ACTIVE 740/840 glasses are now on sale at the same price as the Panasonic ones, and are even cheaper than the older Mitsubishi ones... which of course will also make them way more visible.

So if you need more glasses, now is the time... get them while they're cheap... and you can possibly (not sure) thank Tom and I's discussion for bringing the price down to put them on the map on the Amazon site.

Good deal! My seven-year-old daughter has snagged every kid on the block and made them sit through the IMAX Deep Sea 3D blu-ray.

She has a list of instructions, and it's funny to hear her boss the kids around:

Sit Still.
Don't touch the lenses, only the sides.
Don't move, I'm going to turn the glasses on.
Now watch the movie and don't be scared!

I was just wondering, is the only way to update to 13.06 via usb? I have my 82840 ethernet connected to a router and it doesn't seem to update automagically. I've tried the power off and nothing.

True. I think my friend has seen them in staten island.

For some the glossy finish is not a problem but I can see where it can present a problem. My belief is that Mitsubishi did this gloss finish to help the sets "pop" with its picture.

I've been reading through this thread, and plan to upgrade my 2004 Mits RP soon. That TV has an easy to remove screen, so it's nice and matte with no glare. I've been used to that perfect matte screen for eight years and I always notice how reflective all other TV's are and I really don't like it. I suppose these DLP screen can't be removed? Even in lower light you can still notice it and degrades PQ. Why in the world would a company make some of their screens more reflective on purpose? The "glossy" look doesn't look as good anyway, looks fake. I guess some disagree? Am I out of luck finding a modern TV with no glare/reflections at all?
