Anyone experiencing the rainbow effect on the 73740? I just returned a 73738 after a month because the rainbow effect was driving me nuts, thought I would get used to it but it just got more annoying. Never even watched it in 3D.
Strange thing this was not my first Mitsu DLP, had 65 inch for four years until the light engine went out and I never changed the bulb once, never once did I see the rainbow effect. So I'm hoping it was unit specific. Replaced it with the 740 instead of another 738 because the price went down and was only couple hundred more.

I did notice it at first on my 73738 and was concerned, but after a month it has lessened a lot to the point of not seeing it

Yes, those are some insane sized tower speakers and that center speaker looks like it belongs in an outdoor arena.

I have seen it on my 73740, but I don't find it as distracting as it was on my 62525.

Does anyone know what the color wheel RPM is on the 73740 vs the 62525 (and the number of color segments if applicable)?

Legacy Audio Whispers;\\
The Center on the floor is the Legacy Audio Marquis;
Powered by a Parasound 5250.

With those speakers, one needs a bigger home...

Buddy you can go into Best Buy and compare active vs passive. They have LG Passive's set up along with Pannys Plasma VT30's Active (Really nice crisp picture on the Pannys in 3D) and other active setups. (Sony, Samsung, etc.)

I have had a Panny 54VT25 (Really nice PQ, specially 3D, just too small of a screen for me) and now this 73-640 Mits, I would never go passive till at least another couple of years of developement. Passive I could actually see lower resolution or less "crisp" of a picture compared to any active set. Once you have seen 3D on a nice Panny VT25/30 or one of the big Mitsubishi's, you wouldn't even consider a passive TV. You really can tell a big difference. Well, IMO anyways.

Anyone here use the Xpand X103 glasses on **740 or **840?

If so, how do they work? Any flickering or lost signals?

Here are some pointers when your 73"+ DLP is delivered:

* INSPECT THE PRODUCT. If there is damage to the product, then refuse delivery and ask the driver to return the product. Since signing the delivery receipt is indication of acceptance, open the box and check the screen for damages before signing. DO NOT SIGN or answer any questions until you have verified condition.
* If the packaging is not in perfect condition, then notate this upon signature so you are covered if damages are uncovered later. (Ask to keep a copy of the delivery report.)
* Unpack the TV and test it BEFORE you sign for delivery. Make sure the thing works.

I use the Xpand X103 on my 92840 we're sitting 14' away, no flickering or loss of signal.
But we are waiting on an update to fix problems with judder.

I am using the 103 glasses and one of the sets has a white flickering every so often. I don't know what might be causing this.

Interesting, one set has "white flickering" while the other has "judder". I wonder how common are these issues and what is causing them? Is it the glasses or the DLP?

The update will come from Mitsubishi.

If only one set of glasses has a flicker on the same TV and other set does not, I would suspect a weak battery in the glasses.

Bonsai, have you got any shots of the 92840 laying around that you could post? Maybe with someone standing next to it to get a sense of size?

If not, no worries, just figured I would ask.

Gonna part it out on Ebay

In an hour, going to order a WD73740

Made a cardboard cutout, and it will fit nicely on the stand from the 62525

When I got to store, got an even better deal on a WD 73640.....

the stands the TV is on are 20" high 106" long (both together) and 19.5" deep.

With the new 2011's having the built-in IR transmitter on top of the TV, glasses like the Xpand X-103 should work 15 feet away with good batteries, correct?

The Xpand X103 will work just fine, I am sitting 14' away from my 92" and have no problems with my glasses. Not even with the lights on while playing Disk Golf (PS3 Move) in 2D + Depth.

Disk Golf must be awesome in 3D.

I'm debating whether to sell my Samsung 61A750 DLP on Craigslist. It is a great set and it has a LED lamp. Meaning it should last eons. I've had 0 problems with it. It is going on 3 years old. Yet I've been reading that people with this set eventually have problems. And I've heard that Samsung does nothing to support it's DLP owners because they no longer build them. You're on your own if something goes wrong. It sounds like Mitsubishi gives great support.

I do like the 73740 with the exception that you have to replace the lamp. And the geometry problems. It's much bigger and more up to date. It seems that Mitsubishi really likes to show off these TV's. And reading this forum owners like them too. Any advice would be appreciated.
