6ch analog direct sound muffled with oppo 93

I have an older Harman AVR 340. My oppo 93 connected to the AVR through the direct analog in sounds muffled compared to the optical in connection. I really thought it would sound as good or better connected this way. The oppo does show DTS master audio on it's display, so it is doing the decoding. Anyone with any ideas???

What kind of speakers do you have? Have you configured your speakers as small in the receiver? Did you do the same on the oppo? did you adjust the sub output level for 6ch direct using a calibration disc and spl meter? What kind of interconnects are you using?

Have you got the 6 analog cables connected properly and not reversed front with surround?

Go into the 340 OSD it has Channel Trim Level controls for 6/8 channel direct inputs. Sounds like you have these set too high..
Set these down to -5dB and post back the results..

Just my $0.02...
