OPTOMA ML500 LED 1280x800 - Page 5

3dxl only does hdmi(digital) and VGA is analog.

I saw a post on the Nvidia forumns stating that getting a TV on the support list for 3DTV Play (not 3DVision) is as simple as submitting your EDID info. (should be the same for a PJ?) http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...&#entry1269973 http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774 http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-pl...uirements.html

AYE, that is why a HDMI to VGA converter would be needed as stated.
hdpc would nerf it.
Yes, which is why I also mentioned it would need an EDID function such as the HDFury3.
so a 700$ 3d solution for a 600$ pj?
this is what comes to mind when I hear hdmi to vga

Just stating it as a fact, if a person is looking to buy the ML500 for PS3 3D or 3D Broadcast, they'll need to invest in more hardware since the ML500 does not support 3D via HDMI. Of course for Blu-ray 3D movie playback via the PC the additional purchase of software such as AnyDVD HD would be needed as you have already suggested.

In my experience, scaling is bad on DLP because its so sharp, I wouldn't recommend scaled diamond for gaming at all. Nor ps3, as it is unable to do MSAA anti aliasing, or decent 60 frame per eye.
Funny thu,
LED DLP '3D' with PS3, and hundreds of dollars worth of adapters, sounds the biggest gimmick ever to hit a home theatre .
Straight conglomerate bulls...

When I bought my Qumi I mistakenly assumed it would do 3D over HDMI and that I could use it for occasional gaming/movies via my PS3 knowing that due to the low lumens it would not be all that great for it. Needless to say I never used my Qumi for PS3 3D, but for 2D gaming it was great just as the ML500 will be. I did use it with Nvidia 3D and it was acceptable. It was great for colorful movies like Speed Racer, Cars, Monsters Inc etc.... My favorite being Finding Nemo that was on a regular DVD, it looked spectacular due to the oversaturated colors from the LED. So for 2D gaming/movies/etc.. the ML500 is a "no-brainer" for 3D YMMV. Just know addiditional hardware is needed if you are even thinking of 3D via HDMI out to the PJ.

Look, if it was designed with 3D in mind, there wouldn't be issues like this, instead , it could do 120hz per eye for example, you could use two projectors for extra brightness ( or even resolution), but no, we get DLP Link, well stick to that DLP Link joke if you want , I certainly won't.
it's a shame they missed full Nvidia 3D implementation out of the box. The $499 Acer 5360 can handle it easily, so I don't think cost could be an added factor.

Unless Nvidia charges $$ for this to be implemented.

Shows 8 in stock. Anyone jumped on this? I am tempted, but will wait until reviews show up, don't want to get burned like I did with HX300G

http://www.provantage.com/optoma-ml500~7OPTO0LK.htm

EDIT: Weird, their stock is going up. At first it was 6, then when I posted it was 8, now it's up to 10! I hope the price will go down at that rate!

Anyone ordered an Optoma Ml500 yet?? I'm surprised no one on here has said they have one on the way. If I didn't have my qumi I would ordered one of these by now.

I ordered mines, it should be at my place tomorrow, but I'm out of town. I'll be back Sunday to check it out.

Can't wait to hear what you think. What projector(s) do you currently have or have had in the past for comparisons?

Thanks,
Mike

I had the panny 900, 3000, and 4000 in the past. Currently, I have my JVC RS40, Marantz VP8600, and Optoma GT720. So, hopefully it doesn't disappointment. I have a 119in HP screen, it should be just enough

Excellent. I currently use a JVC RS40 and a qumi on a 92" HP screen so you will be able to give some great observations of the Optoma because you have had a nice variety of LCOS, DLP, and LCD projectors. For a 92" HP screen with the qumi the brightness is very good. I like a very bright image so maybe I should have waited for the ML500 but I got anxious. I bet the ML500 will light up your 119" HP just right.

I was thinking about getting a HP screen your size in my room, but I just think it would be good enough in my theater room. Plus, my Optoma GT720 gives me a nice and bright 84in on my wall

That noise sounds like he's running some some of those Delta case fans in his PC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835213005 If it's the PJ, that would be annoying. Although I see he's playing on a Wii.

Hopefully it isn't that loud. I'm thinking he had his camera right next to projector and microphone was right on exhaust vent. It did appear to have nice brightness....well, if you can really tell that from a video.

Seriously - "Ready for take off..."

I must say, I am new to AVS and PJ's and have been waiting for the arrival of the new 1280x800 LED's to replace my crappy pk301 and the mounds of issues I have had with it. I was hoping to pick one up before football season, but due to Optomas genius customer service answers, I am now thinking I should wait for the Acer. Brightness does look good, though...

If this sound is form the 38dB brigth picture mode then we're screwed with all of these similar clones, the Acer is 35dB in the same mode and 29dB in Eco which is just acceptable. I don't like Hush boxes but it seems that it will be the only way to have one of this for HT.

Looks like the bulb is going to be around a few more years.

29db is half the noise of 38db (38db is double the noise level)
That's how DB work

20DB is near silent

Perceptions of Increases in Decibel Level
Imperceptible Change 1dB
Barely Perceptible Change 3dB
Clearly Noticeable Change 5dB
About Twice as Loud 10dB
About Four Times as Loud 20dB
