@Afineman
If you are using a Nvidia card, you can go to the "Adjust desktop color settings" tab of the control panel and change "Content type reported to the display:" from Auto-select to either Desktop programs or Full-screen videos. Instead of managing 2 color profiles. There's also a program called Lutmanager that I've recently heard of, but have not yet had a chance to try.

BTW, are you using your prior failed projector for landscape lighting? or are you thinking of using it to illuminate the pumpkin for Halloween ?

RenStimpey, how many minutes would you say your unit takes to fully focus after a cold start?
3DNewb

It is an ATI card, but I can live with it, all is set up now.

AAAHH the LG HS 201, Well I be posting an inital report tonight or tomorrow night, let me say this will not put me on LGs or the LED makers Xmas card list.

I will recomend a modification for all 201 owners so they don't have the same failure I had (you'll need someone with solidering skills).

Stay tuned

bye, bye, ML500.
I will wait for the K330.

Have a look at the NEC. it may be better than the ML500 but again no audio out.

How do owners of the Optoma rate the black level performance?

Never owned a projector before, let alone an LED.

But compared to my samsung 2011 LED tv, its 2 out of 10. and my samsung tv is 8 out of 10.

A TV is not a good comparison. After owning a projector (hx350t) , I absolutely don't use my TV any further as I prefer the picture style of the PJ. I consider it to be more cinematic. This is just me though

I'm actually not sure, the effect has been a lot harder to notice lately, and I can't really be sure anymore if it does it at all. I've been looking at it the last few days and the focus doesn't appear to noticeably drift during the initial usage. Maybe now that it has been "broken in" it went away?

One thing I have been unhappy with is the corner to corner focus, so last night I took it down from my temporary mount and put it on a tripod to see if I could get things better. As far as I was able to verify with a level and a tape measure, the ML500 was square to the screen. But I was not able to get the image perfectly focused. If the top was in focus, the bottom would be out of focus, and vice versa. The best I could do was put both top and bottom very slightly out of focus to even things out. Again, I would like to qualify this by saying I only have a single unit, and so mine might be defective.

Just did a test to verify this,

It seems your right, focus is not even from top to bottom.

and i still have a 20+ min focus issue. (60 hours led, 3 hours eco)

Thanks for the post earlier.

I was about to update the ML500, thanks too you i held off on that.
Would the original firmware be on the onboard memory of the projector, the same spot where the user manual is stored?

PS this is my first posting on this website I think this website is awesome it showed me a lot of stuff in regards of projectors.

I am currently a owner of: epson 51c "dead",samsung p400b and p410m,lg hs201,aaxa p2, optoma ml500.

Why do i have so many projectors you might ask?.........because i am projector freak!!!

Looking at the comparing youtube video "LG HW300Y vs OPTOMA ML500 Wer ist der beste LED Beamer?" (German title, I'm not allowed to post the link, sorry) ML500 performs poorly against HW300.

Wounder if the differences could be leveled out in the internal software ore firmware. Looks like all the ML500 needs is calibration

shooting pj on the same screen is no way to compare 2 pjs.

Has any one any idea yet what led chipset from Luminus Devices is used?

copied this right from luminus devices website:

The PT-120 projection chipset features individually packaged Red, Green and Blue LEDs, each with a monolithic emitting area of 12 mm2, and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The PT-54 projection chipset features individually packaged Red, Green and Blue LEDs, each with a monolithic emitting area of 5.4 mm2, and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

isn't aspect ratio 16:10,on Optoma ML500?

Good thing You-tube videos did not factor in the decision to buy mine (ML500). Else I would be projector-less, and the last few days of movie-watching would have been a drab. Once I made the necessary adjustments to mine, I couldn't be happier. There are just too many variables involved to form an opinion based on these videos.

Hey All

I picked up Transformers 3 in Blu Ray a few days ago, I remembered the vivid colors from the theater and wanted to check out just how well my calibration went last weekend (adjusted everything to instructions rather than by eye).

Well by my eye, it is not as good as I believe it can be, maybe when I have some time I'll play around (what are others using as settings (bright/contrast/satu/hue/etc, etc, etc), still I took some pictures

Here are 3 pictures of the white building that looked liked a ship, first picture is no zoom taken from next to the projector http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream

#2 this is on a table 1/2 way between the projector and the screen and on zoom http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream (shadow of camera and hands can be seen)

#3 is 1/2 way @ 3 X zoom http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream (if you zoom in pixels can be seen)

All the next photos were taken under the same conditions (1,2,3)

#1 http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream
#2 http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream
#3 http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream

#2 http://www.flickr.com/photos/4530762...in/photostream

I'm @ 215 hrs ECO mode as of this typing.

Have a good day All

I got into it randomly when idly pressing 2-3 buttons. It showed fan rpm, had values for changing R G or B preset values, and a ton of other text. I wasn't able to access it again (worked all night.) The manual that came in the box was like 3 sheets of paper =P. The online manual had only 1 line of text (in a quick text search) that had the word Factory, and it wasn't how to enter the factory config. menu.

Do any of you folks know/remember the set of buttons to press on the projector to enter the menu? Thanks. I'll give feedback ont he projector as well =) Too tired from being up from working since yesterday afternoon... =P

I think it also had a field that displayed the current temperature (was 41C very shortly after I turned it on) in that same diag/factory-config screen. It some note about firmware but I don't recall what it was. It was, I believe, at least 2 rectangular (vertically long) pages with settings on left, and values on the right.

<2nd addendum> I think it had an hours reset (eco total hrs, regular total hrs) that I think was nonaccessible/greyed out.
Actually, I don't think I've read that anyone has been able to access that particular screen...

Your post is the first of that I've read. If that's the case....KEEEP FONDLING YOUR REMOTE TILL YOU GET IT AGAIN!

You can try the access codes in post #328 page 17 of the The Official "Service Menu Access Codes Request Thread" over at **************.
For some reason the url or name will not post properly.
Remember to be careful what you push/click on while in a service menu, most of the time the action will take place without a confirmation pop up. I found this out the hard way when I hit "Initialize" when in the menu of rear projection TV a few years back, it took me hours to re-tune everything.

Thanks so much 3DNewb! I think you saved my sanity. The link was from High Def Junkies [dot] com on the page you listed.
Pressing "the {POWER}, {LEFT}, {LEFT}, {MENU}" buttons in sequence did it for my ML500.

Copied, and slightly condensed (username)Bruzzi's H.D.J forum post listing misc. Optoma access codes. I used the 4th one.

================================================
On Remote:
{POWER OFF}, {LEFT}, {LEFT} & {UP} buttons on the remote; {RETURN} to exit.
================================================
On the Projector:
Press simultaneously {UP} & {ENTER} buttons twice.

There's actually a ton of options, including a lot of calibration data. I was mistaken as to the hours; you _can_ change the values --I didn't try saving the changes). I'm happy it shows a temperature option.

As for a super quickie review:
[mini background] I used to water cool my computer & power supply while encasing my drives in a 3/4" cement sleeve with my pump in two layers of cement. Now I just run large headpipe heatsinks with an underclocked system and fanless power supply and ripped out my chipset fan to sub in a large cpu cooler. I'm paid to look for rendering artifacts (kinda ocd about them) --it took months + scotch/rum/whisky for me to finally not go nuts due to 1 red pixel on my 46" lcd panel; really _really_ disturbing. So I'm probably oversensitive to any noise & rendering issues.

[cons]
- Dude, that thing is f'n loud in non-eco mode. (think someone using vacuum cleaner two rooms away with your door open a crack.)
- In Cinema Display + Eco Mode, it's louder than my air filter on min setting (small Holmes filter 6x10x12 with squirrel cage fan.) but comparable to the filter on mid setting. (my dB meter is lost in my garage recently overstuffed with burning man gear...) Not toooooo irritating. I'll have to put it in a noise box or something.
- The rainbow ghosting is def. still visible (any dark screen with light vertical/horizontal object will create a multicolored trail when glancing from one area of the screen to another. Seen playing XMen Fist Class (bluray off PS3).
- The diamond pixels are really irritating for text, and it'll throw out the window the benefit of square (grid+pixel) subpixel tweaked text rendering (like Consola --see TrueType)
- There's heavy color fringing on edges of all that reminds me of old days when looking at pixels on svideo connected tv's. Reminds me of Apple2 displays from when I was a kid for some reason. it did not look exactly like it. Just that it reminded me of it. It's more that all edges on one side are purple and on the other side are green; it think it's been described.
- I prefered the square pixel rendering of the Acer's h5360's at work. All the GPU sampling/tweaking algorithms are tailored for square sub pixel sampling for antialiasing game content.

[pros]
Huge sense of relief not worrying about bulb life. --I hate stuff that I'm constantly reminded have limited use time. (ie I had to return my blendtech blender b'c it's use cycles-warrantly LCD display would influence me to never use it in contrast to my vitamix lol)
[super portable]
- projected on ceiling for movie and games with brother
- great for a quick personal display at a LAN party; _really handy_ size, or even a medium group display.
- even though the text looks messed up, it's still very readable when blow up to the size of a wall. I prefer browsing on the wall than on my 1080p 46" desktop display.
- not sure if I'll keep it b'c I have my eyes on the k330.
- if I don't pan my eyes, I don't notice the rainbow effect, but it's really annoying when I do.

If they supported 720p stereo over hdmi w/square pixels. I'd have been curious of picking up 3-4 to span a bunch of displays for 2560x1440 and hacking it to work with HD/stereo. Oh well.

I'll try to do a comparison with H5360 when I'm not swamped.

Bestbuy (12% coupon) + 5% citicards cashback off $650 is the best price I've found. Extended warranty may be handy esp. if you're gonna put it in an noise enclosure with low airflow.
Lol, I'm glad one of them worked. It seems that due to other forumn being a competitor, I was not allowed to post the website.
I'm really suprised I hadn't happened upon that thread of codes before. I've spent countless hours searching on several occasions, trying to access menus on other displays.
Who knows how long it would have took to randomly access the menu again

Nice find, I was set on the LG W 300 because of it's extended color management menu (but the scaling killed it for me), with this find there will be lots of tinkering tomorrow.

NICE FIND

I have the LG HX-300, I think I will use it until hopefully better LED HD projectors come to the market next year.
