Compact bookshelf speakers?

Hi all,

I am trying to find some compact bookshelf speakers (LCR) for a 3.1 system in a 10x12x9 sized room. I currently have a Denon 2112ci and an Emotiva Ultra 10, so I am just looking for the front speakers. I currently have some old Klipsch Quintets that I had laying around hooked up, but they are not doing it for me. This will be used for both music and movies, roughly 50/50. Budget is $1200-1500, new or used is fine.

I like the size of the Totem Mites (6x10.8x8.4), but I'm not sure what to cross shop them with. Any suggestions on what else to look at?

I assume you will be putting them on stands?

The left and right will either sit on stands or on top of a media console. Ideally stands though, since that gives me more positioning flexibility. The center I haven't figured out yet. If it's small enough it could sit on top of the media console, with the left and right on the sides on stands.

I have Ascend Sierra 1's in a similarly sized room and they're outstanding. They're a bit bigger than the Totems (7.5w X 14.25h X 10.25d) but are currently on sale and within your budget. If the size isn't a dealbreaker search this forum and you'll find MANY happy owners.

Thanks for the suggestion, what stands are you using for them? They are possibly a touch larger than ideal, but they are also speakers I've wanted to hear for a while. The Ascend pedestal stand, however, is quite bulky looking and basically just makes them look like floor standers. Do you use the Sierra-1 center as well?

No center as it's a 2.1 music setup. I agree about pedestal stands making them look like towers. I'm using these:

I like the ProAc Tablette for a similar sized speaker, although the Totem Mite is also good. The ProAcs seem more dynamic and maybe a better choice for 50% HT. You'll find them used within your budget.

I noticed Vanns is offering the Yamaha Soavo-2 as well as the Soavo-900 C under budget (shipping included).

Really know nothing about the Soavos, so do some research. Great looking speakers (maybe too large?) but a 15 day refund is offered.
