^^
Try setting the Deep Color Output setting on the PS3 to OFF.

Thanks.

Out of the box, no it isn't. There are two ways to make it compatible though.

The least expensive way is to get a DLNA server for the Mac. Do that and share your iTunes music folder and you will see your media files on the receiver.

The next way is to pick up either an Apple TV 2 or Airport Express. The ATV 2 is an excellent add-on that allows streaming of audio and video from your Mac or from any iPhone you may have. It's also great for Netflix and iTunes content. The only drawback is that it will only work on the Main Zone since it is all-digital.

The AP Express works the same way, but it only does audio files. The AP express also has analog outputs, so you can connect it to the receiver and output the audio on any zone.

Hey guys, I just bought this amp with a cyber monday deal, I did some research but cannot find my answer.

I'm trying to achieve having all my speakers connected with a 7.1 speaker setup indoors and a 2.0 setup outdoors. Now, I see that at the back of this amp there are 11 speaker outputs which *should* allow me to hook up all 9 speakers at once.

I realize that there are only 7 amps on this unit, so powering all 9 is out of question - this is not what I'm looking for.

What I am looking for is A) 7.1 system inside (zone 2 off) B) 2.0 System outside (zone 1 off) C) Multi-zone (2.0 outside, at least 2.0 speakers on inside) WITHOUT needing to rewire the system.

Can this be done? If so is it easy to turn on/off zones, or do I have to go through a tedious setup everytime?

I'm surprised by the fact that most amps dont have this ability - my current Yamaha HTR 5750 allows me to turn zone 1/2 on/off without having to move any connections (with a 6.1 and 2.0 setup). Simple push of a button.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

...Thx for reply jd, hmm need to check on this. My warranty with my 807 expires 4 months from now. I had no receiver for 2 months and just received my new "replacement" 809 almost 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to hold off for now. I just couldn't justify spending the money especially since my wife decided we need new furniture. Well, that and I had ordered it from Amazon with 12 month free financing hoping they would get it in stock soon. Today they said it wouldn't ship until after Christmas. You snooze you lose. Maybe the next time there is a great deal.

Ahh. Thanks. I didn't have time to do a firmware upgrade (didn't have an hour to spare), but had to have the AVR playing that night. I didn't notice any glitches, and upgraded the next day.

I would see no reason for it not to have a new receiver warranty it's new.

I'm pretty sure also that when your original warranty is up on the 807, it will also be up on the 809. Onkyo's obligation is fullfilled. I may be wrong, but this is how most companies handle such a situation.

I was looking at Square Trade, but decided against it. I figure if the AVR lasts two years, that's good enough. It's always nice to upgrade.

I don't know, but it seems a bit odd to me that any company would give you a new item with a pro-rated warranty. That just doesn't make sense to me. Then again, companies do strange and stupid things sometimes. Unless of course the 809 they gave you is a refurb unit, then that would make more sense.

Does anyone here let the 809 do the video processing? I've had issues with video quality when doing so. Colors seem to be off and brightness seems to be constantly adjusted. When I change my settings for each input to source the problem goes away. If anyone has the 809 doing the video processing and is not having any issues please list how you have your settings. If I can get a better picture using the video processing of the AVR then I'd like to do so.

Hello All,
Here are my experiences so far with this 809. I am coming out of an Integra DTC-9.8.

I just got this receiver yesterday (after it being lost by UPS for 5 days). Unfortunately I'm having some problems.
No matter what I did it would not update the firmware using the NET feature. Also when I hit Net, it would constantly say Initializing. USB was the same way. Then I read that you need to turn the receiver on without the ethernet cable plugged in. I did that and it would get me to the screen where it shows the stations but it would freeze and if I came back to Net I just get a blue screen. After various methods, I could never get the internet to work (I think it did for 15 seconds or so but that's just a guess). So I decided to do a USB firmware update. Same thing, I had to keep tinkering with the two usb ports and various orders in which I switched things to get it to acknowledge the USB drive. But I finally did get it to update the firmware.
The firmware did not help with the internet though it looks like the USB port is working. I am sending it back to Amazon but they are out of stock!!! So I guess I will wait.

In the meantime, the other functions seem to work but I wish I had written down my settings on my Integra because the sound isn't even close which is weird because I am using the same amps. I am still a novice so I know its probably the settings. I ran MultEQ but still sounded very harsh compared to the Integra. I can't imagine there being a big difference between the units so I just need to tweak the settings. The other wildcard is that I think my amp is acting up so I'm not sure what's causing what problems.
My 5.2 speakers are:
JBL Ti6K for Fronts
JBL LC2 for Center
JBL L820 for two surrounds.
2 In Wall Sonance THX Subwoofers with Sonamp
Adcom GFA 5006 that drives the front 3 speakers and I let the receiver drive the rear 2.
I never used "bridged" mode on the Adcom before so I wonder if that effects the sound. I thought it would produce more power and effectively make the Ti6K's sound better, but so far they don't.

Even after running MultEQ, I barely hear the Subs.

I think before I go nuts with trying to figure out why everything sounds so low, "tinny", and "harsh", I should wait for a replacement. This one obviously has some issues. Also, I loved the Integra so I think in the end I should be happy with this. The other Option for me would be to get the Integra DHC-40.2 but then I need to buy a better amp.

Anybody have any ideas?

Search on my posts - I have done this subject a few times, and don't want to repeat it all again. If you struggle, send me a pm and I'll try and guide you in.

Hey Guys new owner of an Onkyo TX-NR809

I have a couple of questions. I tried to use the Audyssey setup and I got an error when it got to my sub-woofer. I have A JBL, I am not sure what the model is though. It does a a built in crossover.

Also, I am not sure about the video part. I have it set on Direct. I tried setting it on through but the screen gets darker... It does which from 1080i to 1080p when I am watching TV.

Thanks,
Bob

Did you first do the firmware update. If not do that first thing. I also have mine set on direct and all that means is video processing is being done at the source and not the receiver. As far as the sub giving an error during Audyssey not sure?

I'm sure it's something simple that's been overlooked in the settings. I would start with the audio settings in the cable box.

When I set stb audio to stereo the sound is fine it's when I set it to surround the the sound drops out. It kinda sounds like a phone call with bad reception. Does it the most on nfl network.

I just picked up a used SACD Player and need a receiver with 5.1 analog inputs. The 809 has that right?

Yup.

What other audio options do you have? I'm assuming you've tried them all.

I cant remember the exact wording but I think its "TV Logic"

After a quick google search it sounds like this is a known problem when setting the stb to surround. A newer model stb might fix the problem, hopefully the ATT tech that is coming out today can get me one.

BTW the oRemote app is well worth the money

Wow! That service would not last an evening in my home. I'd chuck that box into the front yard and tell them to come and get it.

Haha. Yeah that's why I didn't hesitate to call them. I could set it to stereo but that's not an option for me, what's the point of my purdy, new equipment if I have to use it with stereo sound. I hope a new stb will resolve my issue.

Hi everyone, New 809 and love it. note:firmware updated

How do I mix and match video output and audio output? Say I want to watch the video from the Cable box but want the audio from the PS3?

Everything is hooked up with HDMI and is working great.

Secondly,

The resolution / clairty of the onkyo OSD is not nearly as sharp as it seams it should be, kind of jaged and blurry. really noticeible on the text / album art when playing spotify.

Thank you.
