What I'm thinking is that direct or pure is meant to give you a clean output (pure even more than direct) for your system. Now if I have full size L/R Fronts, unless they are an electrostatic panel, they have a crossover between mid and bass. Just because a setup has that bass in a separate enclosure, that bass needs to be eliminated in pure or direct. That doesn't make sense to me, does it to you?

When I switch to pure, I believe I hear better highs and mids - but there is a definite loss in bass as my bookshelves don't do all the subwoofer does. So I can't really use pure..... am I being clear enough?

Gang...so I gotta put this out there...

Do you think we can someone in this thread do a FAQ like what is going on over in the Audyessy (sp) thread.

Even at this moment I can't figure out where to find the info BURIED in the million posts in this.

Not sure how we can split this up, but man if we could it would make our lifes so much easier.

I will offer to help how I can...not sure I have enough knowledge though.

Any thoughts ?

Good idea. You would probably have to team up with a Mod and see how it could be done or maybe have to start a new thread just for the FAQ's

I thought about this a while back, but the only way is to contact the first poster - and someone send him the "info" to have it updated with the various subjects covered.

It could simply be "Subject - list of relevant Post numbers"

Now it would take someone to decipher the various discussions into a consensus, or at least the opposing views. And list these post numbers. But the Search facility here is not great, so, any volunteers?

I have contributed several times, and perhaps I am too opinionated to do it. But I have found it occasionally frustrating to see the same stuff come up over and over. Didn't stop me replying though.......:-)

Would it be easier to start a "faq" thread? Could copies of some of this thread's posts be copied to it or is that a problem?

I would help if I can, but your knowledge along with a couple of others would be a necessity, imo.

I was very disappointed that there is independent DLNA random skipping for zone 2 and 3 with the new firmware upgrade. As mentioned, something simple like setting it at random in the main zone, the AVR keeps this setting for zone 2 and 3 when you switch over. Then press zone 2 or 3 and the skip button and it will skip to the next random song.
It would be even better if you had full independent menu control, but I do not think this is realistic at this point.

I think you could just contact him and ask if we can post a MASTER LINK to another FAQ page that someone else could control...so no need to have OP continue to update. Problem is someone that really knows there stuff has to have the time and then of course want to spend the time...which is not always easy this day and age.

They did this? I need to test it out. Some users were complaining you could not do this...

The thread starter was actively posting for a couple of months, but last posted back last summer, so may no longer be active in the forum at all. You can get one of the mods to make changes which is what I do in the Denon threads to post firmware changelog information (as Denon does not openly publish this information). We recently discussed this on the Audyssey website and in the end decided it was better to create an FAQ within the current thread with a link to it provided in post #1 of that thread. Ideally going forward with the new 2012 models, you'll want to reserve a few posts at the beginning of each new model's thread for FAQs and such as we have done in the current year's Denon thread. Also note that it's far easier to have a thread for the entire year's models as many of the features are similar between models and it also cuts down on having to answer the same questions over and over again.

Not likely, no, as in the end you create a 2nd Owner's thread that folks can start posting to ... which means someone's got to monitor both threads. As suggested above, simply create a FAQ post within this thread and link to it in post #1. Then have the regulars provide input and review the FAQ (via PM to the FAQ admin) as it's developed by that single person.

OK, after more thought, I understand what you are saying.... Duh! If you want no processing, you can't have a crossover for a sub, because that is processing!

If a dedicated sub were to be connected to the left/right outputs that would work.... right?

I'm unable to get my Oppo DVD-Audio player to play in multi-channel (direct analog 5.1). Stereo over Digital Out works just fine.

In the manual the 7.1 analog input (multi-channel) is supposedly tied to the BD/DVD source, but when I swapped my PS3 and Oppon I simply lost sound entirely. I'm pretty sure I've run out of permutations, so if anybody knows I could use the help.

Thanks!

Here is a good thread to use as an example:
The Official Onkyo TX-SR705 Thread (FAQ in 1st Post)

Heck a ton of the stuff is re-usable and very very similar...at least I think it is.

I used for my 605 and 608, so I had it bookmarked.

With the FL/FR then connected to the sub? Yes.

Are you selecting "Multich" and not "Analog" as the Audio source under Source setup, because I made that mistake once.

Also have you disabled audio output for HDMI.

Can the 809 do this or not?

No, beleave it, several secs needed. But after that sound is GREAT .

Hello everybody,

I just bought the ONKYO TX-NR5009 to replace a YAMAHA A-3000. I listened to it and I had a very good impression so far. I wonder if you can help me to change the OSD blue color to black. The blue screen is disagreeable to me.
tks a lot in advance.

If you adjust the colour settings of your display all the way to the left, that might help.

Else you'll need to turn off the OSD

:-)

Thanks. I am choosing Multi-Ch. So I should choose Analog? I think I did disable HDMI audio out, but will check that as well.

Also, am I correct in that the Oppo has to be connected as the BD/DVD source?
rworne, No, they did not do this. If the main zone is on random and you switch over to zone 2 and press zone 2 and skip it goes to the "all" logo (which is the next track on the currently playing album). Stop and play work fine. It should not be too difficult to do this for the skip button. I am going to call them tomorrow.

Wanted to get some thoughts from owners of this receiver, as I'm considering it as an upgrade to power my system, which is as follows:

Front: Polk rti 10's
Center: Polk csi 5
Rear: Polk Monitor 60's

Would this receiver supply sufficient power to bring out the quality of these speakers? My current receiver is an Onkyo HT-RC360, for the sake of comparison.

The 809 would be a good step up, it will easily drive he speakers you have.
Just picked up an 809 to replace my 805. After calibrating my speakers with audyssey, I'm really impressed with the 809. Got a new tv a while back and since it was 3D I wanted to lessen the cable clutter and keep enjoying HD audio. I wasn't sure if the 809 would hold up to the 805, but I think it actually makes my speakers and sub sound a bit "fuller".

BTW, are there any default settings that should be changed. I noticed in the menu some new settings compared with my old 805. For instance the dynamic eq and dynamic volume settings, should I leave these as default (on for eq, off for volume I believe).

Also, the picture settings in the menu is new to me. I haven't touched any settings here I believe custom is the default setting. Wouldn't I just dial in my picture settings on the tv?
You are correct that you want to dial it in on the set, but the added controls allow you to get it even closer! I'm partial to the Spears and Munsil BD.

Also, I'd go into the home setting, audio, and make sure that Audyssey EQ is in fact on.

Good luck!

If I don't want to play around with the picture controls on the 809, should I use "through" or "direct"?
Also, regarding dynamic eq and volume should I leave these as default? I never use any night listening modes if they are related.

Is there a way to control the 809 via laptop? I have an Ipad and an Android phone, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the 809 via laptop running Windows 7.

Anyone have any comments on the Onkyo 809 vs Denon 2312?
