You are welcome. I thought NewEgg had for 687.00 ? No I bought mine from my local FRY'S. I had them do a price match for 649.00 although I had to pay the tax I'm still pleased with my purchase.
Yes I checked the serial# and mine is not affected. I have had mine for about 6-months now and have not had any problems what so ever with it.
To be honest I have not had much time to play around with it in terms of the networking etc. My set up is geared towards Blue Ray movies and not music.
The 809 is packed full of features and once you get it set up the way you want, I'm sure you will be blown out of the water.

If I had to buy it again I would do it without a 2nd thought.

Although if I would have known that the 818 had XT32, I would probably have waited for it.. But not a big deal, big price difference right now between the 809 and 818.

thanx guys ,i guess it 's just one phone call away to either ones to check the serial # then order and stop shopping around ,i also was considering the 609 and 709 but i know i am only gonna be happy with the 809 that way i have the preouts .

My first 809 came from Amazon, then about a month later the recall came about and wouldn't you know it, mine was on the list!

So, I contacted OneCall.com (Amazon's third party seller) and they took great care of me by sending another new 809, while assuring me that all the recalled units they found in their stock were by then already returned to Onkyo.

Once the new 809 arrived, I immediately checked the serial number and was found to be good to go. Then, I returned the recalled unit to OneCall, and they paid all the accumulated shipping charges for both directions. Since then, I've not had a bit of trouble with the new unit and it exhibits the features and performance of a receiver easily costing hundreds of dollars more.

So, it quickly became a story with a very happy ending...

Don't end up with buyers remorse. Order the 809 as it has all of the goodies of the 609 and 709 plus some !!
I would not wait too long either as I've seen the 809 go up in the 900 range and then back down in the 700-800 range.

That's the thing about electronics, something will always come out bigger and better.
I had a Sony DA-5ES receiver that severed me very well for almost 11-years. At the time I bought it, it was the flag ship.
Anyway the 809 was a huge upgrade for half the price !!

The reason I don't want to use Direct TV to stream though, is that I do not have analog cables hooked up from my DTV box to the receiver so I can't get that audio to my Zone 2. Also, I was able to stream consistantly from Sirius to my 809 for hours, so it's just streaming from WMP11 that's the problem.

SO I have narrowed down my problem to being streaming from WMP11 to my 809 receiver. I thought about resetting the receiver, but I don't want to lose my personal settings. I remember reading somewhere about a soft reboot of the receiver, where you won't lose your settings, anyone know what that is? Is it simply unplugging the receiver and pluggin back in?

Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas? Anyone having any issues like this?

Update: I have isolated the problem down to ONLY streaming issues between the 809 And the WMP11. I was able to stream flawlessly w/ WMP11 and my Direct TV. I was also able to stream flawlessly between my 809 and my PC using TVersity for 2 hours. BUT, when I streamed from my PC from my WMP11 to my 809, after 15-20 minutes or so, it stops and I need to reconnect. It's odd, because on the TV Screen, it no longer lists my WMP11 as an available server, but if I get out for a minute, then back in, my WMP11 server is listed again and I can start streaming again (for 20 min's or so)

ANY help would be VERY appreciated!!!

Bought the 809 and hooked up everything up. Pushed the power button on and the unit immediately started to smoke. Read some of the quality control issues here. Not sure if I want to have it repaired or returned. Keep the receiver? Thanks.

If mine were a new purchase and it went up in smoke, I'd return for a replacement rather than have a repair done.

I purchased a 809 from Crutchfield last year. I've never heard of a recall list. I've searched online and can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction so I can check my S/N? Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind...just found information on recall...

BUT...

Any help on my other issue I've posted about streaming music from WMP11 would also be greatly appreciated. I've wasted HOURS trying to troubleshoot and am out of ideas!!!

Did Audyssey Full Calibration twice. Both occasions, Audyssey set the crossover to 40, and I changed to 80 for all the speakers.
Not much difference in Speaker levels, almost similar both times. Slight improvement in the volume level and audio quality after Audyssey, but not much. After lot of reading through the thread, and as mentioned in posts # 823 and # 1326 changed the speaker levels by +3.

Post # 1326 mentions the Sub was adjusted backwards - like to confirm whether what I have done is right - changing from +1 to -2, or whether I should change the Sub from +1 to +4

Audyssey Changed
Left -3 0
Right -2 +1
Center -4.5 -1.5
SL -7 -3
SR -7.5 -4.5
Sub +1 -2

After the changes, audio further improved. But no improvement in Sub. Volume becomes loud between 50 and 70 depending on the CD/DVD. But the depth/clarity/thump is missing. I feel the AVR can produce much better quality audio. I do not have SPL meter. Can I leave the Sub unchanged at +1? The Bass has not improved. Please advice. I have not touched the intellivolume yet. I have also not increased the volume in the Sub. Any other suggestions in settings please?

I am only trying one input source now (HDMI 1), and only music CD or DVD. Like to stabilize the audio quality first before moving forward with the other sources and options. Thanks in advance for any help.

Your values look OK, as they were within the range of adjustment of the AVR capabilities.

How is this sub woofer wired?

If you are setting up for 2 channel stereo music, please confirm
You have the Listening Mode set to Stereo (it should show 2.1 on the AVR)
4.1 You have Audyssey profile set for Movies (not Music)
4.1 Audyssey Dynamic Eq =ON
4.1 Dynamic Volume = OFF
2.2 LPF of LFE = 120Hz

Then:-
Do you get deeper bass and volume on your Sub when using Pure listening mode? (ie with ALL Audyssey features OFF).

well if you want to dive in and make sure that everything is ok, you should run the audyssey mic setup so you know all of the channels are working, and then you'll also have an audyssey measurement if you choose to use that option. at the very least, just go into speaker level setup and get the white noise to confirm all channels are working since channel failure was at one point a problem with this generation of onkyos (i had this happen to me on a 709 and it looks like it wasn't terrible uncommon in some of these units) hopefully the recall serial number check thing weeded that issue out.


that, and plug into your network and get the latest firmware update.

Do two things before we troubleshoot this further...try Audyssey Dynamic EQ on, and check the speaker distances and adjust the sub distance closer to the actual distance if it's set for further away (it often is).

I did not care for Dynamic EQ when i first tried it but after recalibrating my system i've been enjoying it...let me know if either/both of those settings do any good for you.

got thee wireless working downloaded latest software and at the end i keep getting an error code.whats going on?
also it lost the sound a couple times and had to reset it by turning the power of
anyone having same problems?
should i return it and get another?

OK, I am having NO luck with the WMP11 streaming issue. Is anyone out there? Anyone have any ideas?

I just troubleshooted again, and it's definately an issue w/ my receiver and WMP11 ONLY. I plays three songs, then just stops. I can go out of DLNA on my receiver, and get right back into my WMP11 server with no problem.

I just treid re-installing the latest firmware, but my receiver says it's up to date. I've unplugged the unit for 10 mins, and plugged it back in and that won't work either.

Any other ideas? VERY frustrated here!!!! All this started just last week when I had to install the latest firmware...before that it was streaming flawlessly.

open box from onkyo and authorized sellers will have the same warranty. if you bought it off ebay or somewhere else, you'd have to check the sale terms. it varies.

Goto windows /network/809 right click 809 and hit install.

If you have setup everything right you should be able to use play to feature in wmp11

I ran into problems but was able to resolve by above and starting ssid service snag one more which o cannot recollect.

Not sure what you're referring to here, Play to feature? Where is that, on the 809 or the PC? Assume it's on the PC.

Are you talking about doing install on my PC? I have already given the 809 permission in my WMP11, I've been streaming to my 809 via WMP11 for months. It's just recently when I did the latest firmware update it's that I am not having problems as described.

On my receiver, I go to NET, then click on DLNA, and my list of media servers is listed. I click on WMP11 and stream music. I am doing this on my receiver, not the PC. Is the Play To Feature work the opposite way, I am doing this on the PC, sending to the 809?

Hi ccschoch I have nearly the same problem as you as i cannot stream wmp11 to my onkyo 809,i could u.
ntil last week.
my amp does not see my computer even though my wmp11 sees the amp,i tried asset as a server on my pc and that streams fine to the amp,my samsung smartphone also streams ok.
My samsung 64d8000 also doesnt see the pc I too have run out of ideas,it seems you cannot update wmp11 as microsoft say the update is an older version of the one i am running!.
Its a pity we cannot install wmp12 but its supposed to come as standard with windows 7 which i am running and there is no update process.
