Does the Pioneer have a plastic front? The thing may sound good but it sure looks cheap to me.......

Seems a little strange. Not doubting its a good avr but if D3 was really the end-all-be-all, Id figure it would be plastered all over the place.

Which model. sc61 or 1222k? To be honest I don't know why there are so little reviews. IMO both the pioneer and the onkyo are awesome avr's. I would still have my 809 of it didn't start buggin out after 1 week, The pioneer is an extremely well built avr. Will it have problems? Time will tell. It seems like it's difficult to get a well built product these days.... With anything. All I can say is so far I'm enjoying my pioneer sc61. You could always get one at BB (make sure to price match Amazon) and of you don't like it bring it back.

Pioneer 1222 doesnt look cheap. Yes, it has black plastic brushed, i believe the sc61 has the black brushed metal but i compare it with my denon 3311 in which has the brushed metal face and both looks very similar. About audio I thought 3311 was the best thing i ever heard. Well the pioneer 1222 is much better!!!!!!!!!

Nothing about my sc61 seems " cheap" Well built avr. Great sound which to me is the most important

Actually was referring to the 1222K, but even the SC61 doesnt have a WHOLE lot of reviews.

Was only thinking of the 1222 because of the price at Newegg, not sure if BB would match them (or if BB even carries the 1222)

Yes the new models are out. Once they come out the old ones stop production.

IMHO doubt it...unless there is a specific feature you are looking for on the 809.

My receiver shows the FW 1131-1277-0211-3107. Is it the latest available?
If you look at features there is a huge difference between the 809 and 706

Thank you! Go to the pioneer boards already for in depth discussions on those models.

How is the IR out signal used to activate non-Onkyo devices? I've got a Panamax power strip with 12v triggered outlets, and am told these can be activated with an IR Emitter cable connecting the IR out of a receiver with the 12v trigger input of the strip. And the Onk manual says the IR out can be used to control other AV units "including those made by other manufacturers". But Onk tech support doesn't know anything about how to do this, and say only that the code list on page 75 of the manual is for Onkyo components. All this in effort to get around the fact that zone 1 doesn't activate the Onk's 12v trigger. Big pain.

Heck yeah! I went from a 609, to a 709, to an 809. Every model upgrade was better in features & sound than the previous. I had the same polk speakers on all 3, & the 809 is terrific! Don't let the "fear of an HDMI failure" scare you off. These come with a 2yr warranty.

Quick question guys. When playing back a bluray movie that has the DTS HD MA logo what should the AVR have displayed? Mine is saying Multichannel. I cannot get it to display DTS at all . The bluray player is outputting the DTS signal per the on screen display. I am running a 5.1 FWIW.

Not sure I can help much other than say I get my 809 to say DTS HD MA etc...when my bluray outputs that.

What is your BluRay player..if an older PS3 I know it won't light up the logo on the AVR....also what is your BluRay player set to do if not an old PS3 ?

Assuming your Blueray player is connected using just the HDMI cable?

You need to make sure the audio setting on the DVD/BD player is set to Bitstream or Digital Pass Through. (same thing)

When you get the audio setting on your DVD/BD player changed to bitstream and play a movie, the Onkyo will automatically select the correct surround mode. It will actually change a few times because a DVD/BD movie's menu is usually in a different surround format than the movie itself.

When working correctly, it will show the surround mode that its in on the Onkyo's display. You'll see it switch as you go from the disc's menu to watching the movie.

Hi BOTTLEDZ28, check receiver listening mode menu is set to "Straight Decode" for DTSMA-HD and TrueHD. And check Bluray player audio HDMI is set to "Auto" and BD Audio Mix is set to "Off" or "Direct" or "Secondary Audio to Off". Also some Blu Ray disc will default to the standard DD/DTS track, so you might have to manually select the TrueHD/DTS-MA soundtrack. Normally this will be found under Audio or Language Setting.

I'm having the same wireless network issue that many of you have mentioned.

NO ACCESS POINT FOUND

I have both the UWF-1 and the TP-Link adapter and I can't get either to see any networks. I'm in a condo and I know there are at least 6 visible networks around including mine. This is the ONLY device in the house that I can't see the networks. It's not easy for me to hook up a hard cable so I really want to try and get the wireless working. This is the main reason I bought the damn thing. I have talked with Onkyo but other than updating it with the latest firmware and still having the same issue .... here I am!

Has anyone figured this out?
FWIW, the first 809 that Amazon shipped to me had no working network what-so-ever. I sent it back and the replacement worked great.

If I were you, I would haul the 809 near your network switch and plug in the wired network connection to ensure that the receiver actually has a working wired network connection. If that works (e.g. you get a valid IP address and Pandora works), then the trouble is with the Wireless adapter.

Good luck.

Being LAZY,

I would use a long (say 100 Foot cable, if necessary), instead of draging the reciever.

I use a wireless ethernet plug in.It cost $25 and works great. I connect it to my network wirelessly(push button) then plug it in to the 809.

this message is now under the listing for this at amazon....any idea why it is there?

Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

My guess is that the supply is drying up.

Does anyone know why I keep getting an error when Audyssey checks for the right height speaker? I'm only running 5.1 right now and only have those speaker holes plugged. I would expect it to check for it, hear nothing and move on. The avr checks the left height and moves on but not the right one.

Anyone know why? Also is there a place to let it know right off that i'm only running 5.1 so it doesn't waste time checking for those other speaker positions?

You might try the support forum on Onkyo.com. They might have workaround for you.
