Wireing questions

A few questions about speaker wire.

How do I know what guage to use?

If I have to slice two wires together to make a longer run what is the best way (Wire nuts okay)

Is the radio shack speaker wire okay?

Tell me about Bannana plugs- Why use them? Benefits? where do I get them? Are there some better than others?

I use 14ga-16ga wires... from radio shack

Banana Plugs are a convenience factor of connecting and disconnect the speakers but honestly there is no benefit to them besides that

Generally I like to use one run of wire per speakers but when I have multiple I just twist the wire together and wrap each polarity with electrical tape

How long of a run do you have to go?
What brand of speakers do you have buy the way?

I would reccomend using 1 solid run to the speakers unless you have no choice to wire nut them. I would also use a 14ga wire.

As mentioned, I would use at least a 14ga and if at all possible a solid run. As far ar the wired in celing & outdoor speakers I guess I would use your best judgement on that.

Not really I wouldn't go smaller than 16ga personally
Here is a chart on what to use

Wire Gauge Distance (ft)
18 AWG 10ft
16 AWG 20ft
14 AWG 35ft
12 AWG 60ft
10 AWG 100ft

The distance is the length of the wire you are using from receiver to speaker
