Basically I just bought a new tv, and I want to hook my xbox up to the tv via HDMI. However I also want my 5.1 surround sound to play, problem is I can't figure out how to do this =/. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Does your receiver support HDMI?

Easiest way would be to connect to the Xbox to the receiver and the receiver to the TV via HDMI.

Another way is (depending on what Xbox you have), is to connect the Xbox to the TV with HDMI and the Xbox to the receiver with Optical.

Thats how I did it, I used the Optical for two main reasons.
1) the xbox only uses Dolby Digital and DTS as and audio output and those pass through Optical wires, No HDMI required for that.

2) running your xbox through you receiver with HDMI and then to the TV will more then likely create video lag!

if you use the HDMI or Optical for your sound, you wont hear a difference, One isn't better then the other when it comes to standard DD and DTS.
