3D on Barco 1209

I took the plunge and got the VIP 3D theater for my Barco 1209. Just wanted to report that everything synced up easily and the 3D effect is very impressive. My player is panasonic bdt110.

I have one problem with my 3D setup and hoping someone with more 3D experience can help. Throughout Avatar, I have scenes in which some objects appear as a double image, while the rest of the image is in good focus/convergence. This problem can affect objects in the foreground or background. Any help greatly appreciated.

I took the 3D theater over to a friends house and it worked on his sim2 mico50 pj at 720p 60HZ. I did not see the double image problem on his sim2 on scenes that had the problem on my barco. Unfortunately, my friends sim2 can't do 120HZ and the flicker at 60HZ was not acceptable.

You are seeing ghosting. The higher the refresh rate the more likely that ghosting will appear on CRT.

Can you adjust the timings on your rig? That is the only way to minimize ghosting... or change your green tube to a P43 phosphor version.

craigr,

I have a lumagen radiance xd (non 3D) for my 2D viewing, so I can adjust timing. I believe you are very experienced with the lumagen product. Would I get better result upgrading my XD with a 3D key and the 3D box from lumagen, or would I need to go to a XE/XS + to get rid of ghosting.

craigr,

Have you tried p43 phosphor as well as timing adjustments. Are both methods needed? Any 2D down side to using p43 phosphor.

wears faster, color not so good, rest depends on the viewer. I have p43 but am not interested in 3d.

how much tube life does p43 cost you, do you lose half or more. Is your green tube color corrected? Mine has the green c-element, so can I assume any color inaccuracis in p43 green phosphor might be negligible with color correction?

Just curious, what made you go with p43 phospor?

Ltv,
How does brightness of 3d compare to 2d without the glasses?

I was thinking about 3d for my 1209 but was concerned about brightness.

RVonse,

Brightness is definitely diminished, but if you are willing to push the pj a bit harder (brightness 50-55, contrast 70-80) the picture is still very enjoyable.

I have decided not to burn out my tubes and went to a 2 projector setup. I bought an Acer 5360, which displays 3D flawlessly with the VIP 3d-theater. Brightness is not an issue with the Acer with 2500 lumens. PQ on the Acer is very impressive at this price level. I use the Acer for 3D and gaming and save the Barco for 2D movie watching.

Hi LTV,

I see you have a vip 3d setup on your Barco 1209.... I have the same, but I can not get it working. The Barco 1209 does not give a steady picture. Instead of a BluRay player, I use mkv-files through a mediaplayer.

What did you do to make it work?

Thanks in advance!

kakker,

I only play 3d movies through my panasonic bluray player. Sorry I can't help.

I understand... but still: did you connect it to the Barco and it just worked? Or did you have to put certain settings?
