Killer Elite

What a cast.. Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, Yvonne Strahovski, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Dominic Purcell. It is also the directorial debut of Gary McKendry. Looks like fun!

Now this is what Im talking about. A silent sleeper at the end of summer to make up for some of disappointments like green lantern and prob Rise of the apes.
And yes what a great cast, I would be shocked if this blows. The premise alone is suck proof and almost sounds like the mechanic plot.

BTW: love that background tune from the scorpians.

The film is based on the 1991 novel The Feather Men by Sir Ranulph Fiennes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kil...ite_(2011_film)

Which differs from the 1975 movie The Killer Elite:

Quote:
The Killer Elite is a 1975 American action thriller film starring James Caan and Robert Duvall and directed by Sam Peckinpah.

The screenplay was written by Marc Norman and Stirling Silliphant from the Robert Rostand novel Monkey in the Middle.

So it isn't a remake

De Niro is third billed, so I'm guessing he's hardly in it.

Ok, this new trailer sold me. Looks like a fun time!

Jason Statham is the best badass since Clint Eastwood.

I'm looking forward to Killer Elite too. I like all three stars and it looks like action packed fun, if a little loud and dumb. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This film is a definite to make my collection. Clive Owen Robert Deniro and Jason Statham you cant go wrong.

Anyone? I haven't heard any advance info on it and was curious if it was worth a go at the theater, or wait for Bluray.

Early reviews say this is solid action:

Surprisingly good review for an action film:

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...5/1001/reviews

The movie is a first feature by Gary McKendry, born in Northern Ireland, who previously directed many commercials and the 20-minute short "Everything in This Country Must," which was nominated for an Academy Award in the live-action short category. This is an impressive debut. He has the instincts of a storyteller, and understands that action is better when it's structured around character and plot, and doesn't rely on simple sensation. "Killer Elite" is rather pure in its storytelling, because at the end, we might be hard-pressed to divide the characters into good and bad guys.

This movie is not doing well at all:

Say it isn't so...wow really? that comes quite a shocker. Drive didn't do it for you, and now this one too...seems like you're in a bit of rut.

I ran across The Expendables on TV recently and watched it again. It was a reminder that anything Starring Jason Statham is, to put it gently, unlikely to be great art. I generally give the guy's stuff high marks for pulse pounding excitement but considerably lower ones for artistic merit. What the hell, though, what is wrong with loud and stupid so long as it's fun?

See Drive by all means. I lthought it was a good film overall, although Ryan Gosling's performance as the Driver wasn't very good. Drive was directed by Nicholas Winding Refn and his work in it really impressed me. Killer Elite is not worthy of being mentioned in the same breath with Drive, Jason Statham not withstanding.

Wow, I can't believe what I just saw. This was really bad,,..this was the worst De niro I've seen in any film, the story kept on jumping back and forth it was ridiculously stupid and confusing as hell with so many characters coming out from nowhere I just gave up after 1 hour mark. What a total waste of talent! This one really blind sided me with the cool title and action from the trailer.

Watched tonite.

Tense and well acted, but seemed a little long.

The premise of assassins agreeing to kill SAS operatives in order to seek release of one of their own was not credible IMO.
It would have been a helluva lot easier and way more logical to mount a rescue.
Although claimed to be "based on a true story," I'm not buying it.

AV of the BD is excellent.
