Need your help asap!!!

Hello,

I'm new here. Not sure if this is the right place but I am in desperate need of help. I just purchased an Optoma HD20 projector and I am having issues with it shutting off during movies.

Here is a list of my equipment...

LG BD630 Blu ray player
Onkyo AVX 280 receiver
Cheap high speed ethernet HDMI cables

Everything is less than 1 month old.

My DirecTv and blu ray player both feed into the Onkyo receiver via the same cheap HDMI cables. Then I have one 25 ft HDMI cable from the receiver to the projector.

The projector works fine when watching DirecTv. Never shuts off or gives me any issues. Once we watch anything on the blu ray player. We can get about 10 minutes into the movie before the projector will shut off. The manual states this may happen and to wait 60 seconds and restart it. Once we do that the projector works fine for another 10 minutes or so then shuts off. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating.

I dont think it is the cheap HDMI cables because it works fine carrying the signal when watching DirecTv. So I believe it is either the projector or the blu ray player is not producing a strong enough signal. Any thoughts or ideas???

Thanks in advance for your help

Is the bluray player sending a 1080P/24 signal? If so that would be one of the differences from our directv, which would be sending some other resolution 1080i/60 or 720p/60 with the /60 vs /24 being different...just a guess, if that is the case you can always set the bluray player to send a /60 signal and see if that helps...

Thanks for the fast response. I really appreciate it.

The blu ray player is sending a 1080p/60 signal

My guess would be an HDCP handshake issue. Never seen a weak signal cause a projector to shut down, but I suppose it's possible. Disconnect the HDMI cable going out of the receiver and use it to make a direct connection between the projector and BD player. Since that cable works fine with DirecTV, we know it's not faulty. If the projector keeps shutting off when connected directly to the LG, you likely have an HDCP handshake issue, meaning the projector and player are essentially speaking slightly different languages, causing them to have difficulty commincating properly. If that turns out to be the case, your next step would be updating the firmware on the LG and/or contacting Optoma to find out if new firmware was released for the HD20 to address these issues. Good luck!

Projectors don't shut down because of a loss of signal unless that option is active in the menu. I would check your menu and see if that is on. It's under the Setup tab in the menu.

These are great ideas! I will test out some of these theories and let you guys know. Thanks

I think Ghost is correct. Sounds like a handshake issue to me.

Ok, so last night I connected my older Optoma EP721 projector to my setup (LG player connected to Onkyo receiver) and it played 2 movies with no issues.

Im thinking it is either a defective projector or the firmware update that you guys are speaking of. I am not sure what I need to do for a firmware update. I cant really find anything online with a definite answer. Thanks for everyones help so far.
