New Receiver

Alright, so, I have been obsessing about which receiver to purchase for my new MLT-1 speakers, 100watts RMS. I currently have an outdated panasonic vsx-519v which was used with an old HTiB speaker set and worked well enough. I'm really looking for something that is all-around the best entertainment receiver. Sound is very important.. however, price is too I was hoping to get some feedback from owners or audiophiles on which might be my best decision.

Anyway, moving on

the Harmon Kardon 7550HD

Onkyo NR709 is selling for around 50$ more than the HK.

Onkyo NR609 is around about 280$ less than the HK.

Finally, there is a deal going on for the Yamaha RX-V867 and it's currently 330$ less than the HK.

All of these come with free shipping.

So, the HK7550HD looks amazing and was a flagship receiver in 2009 I believe and supports HDMI 1.4a since a new firmware update. It has the older Faroudja upconversion video processor. However, I hear so many amazing things about the sound of HK. This receiver also supports DLNA and some basic radio streaming. 110Watts RMS

The Onkyo 709, 110 watts RMS; is next and has the new marvell video processor and supports a multitude of internet functiongs, pandora, DLNA, slacker. etc.. MultiEQ.

The Onkyo 609, 100Watts RMS. This one only has 2EQ and I keep hearing how the sound isn't on par with the others.

Finally, the Yamaha is only 430$ right now.. and seems like the best "bang for buck" scenario. It has YPAO, Bluetooth A2DP and the basic internet functions on par with Onkyo. However, it is only 95 Watts RMS.

I know anything will be an upgrade to what I have now. My question is: Which one given the prices do you think I would enjoy most?

Sorry, if I was not specific enough.. my brain is a bit foggy.

Thanks, in advance!

Shane

Any aversion to Denon's?

No, not really.. I've just heard they are a bit more pricey and lack the features. However, I have heard they sound great.

I'm considering these receivers:
NAD T747
Marantz SR5006
Denon 2112CI

Currently have a H/K AVR 635. It does sound great, but has none of the lossless formats like TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. The new H/K that would have similar power costs a kilobuck. Features on the Denon and Marantz actually seem better than the new H/K. Meanwhile, the NAD is on special sale because it does not support HDMI 1.4 (about which I do not care). Tough decision ahead...

The Yamaha is a sweet deal right now. I would not look at the manufacturer power ratings as they usually don't tell you a lot. Also there is practically no difference between 95 and 100 watts. You have to double the power to get a noticeable increase in volume. I don't see a better deal than the Yamaha 867 right now. I went with Denon because I like Audyssey but I was close to getting the 867.

Thanks, I was thinking that 95watts wouldn't really be noticeable, however, I figured I would mention it. I think I'm going for that Yamaha... I suppose I might obsess a day or so before I snag it up, just to make sure!

The biggest issue I have with the 867(but it depends on your speakers) is it uses a blanket crossoer(like all but the top end Aventage line does).

If your 5.0 "matches" then that is fine. But if you use towers in the front, bookshelves in the rear...you are better searved by any one of your other options.

As much as it pains me, being a big onkyo fan, they are having huge quality issues.
Whole thread dedicated to it in this section.

Hey guys, the DENON AVR-2112CI is on sale for 10$ less than the Yamha RX-V867.. is this a better grab? How much better would the MultiEQ be? My front and rear speakers are identical.

Thanks

Pulled trigger on the V867..

From all that I've read on the 867 you made a fine choice. That HK is a beast with more inputs/outputs I've seen but at a much higher cost. That 867 is loaded, plenty of inputs/outputs with network but is minus the USB port. That Yammy also sucks far less power (400w) than the others and has a rep for no heat issues.

I chose the NAD T747. Should arrive about July 5. 1080p but not 3D, and superb quality sound. No network features, but my Cinema PC does all that and will feed the content through the T747.
