The Evil Dead was made for $400,000, was shot on 16mm and is one of the very best looking Blu-rays.

I really wish people would stop bringing up Evil Dead when comparing old transfers. Not all film stocks and negatives are in the same condition. Just because Evil Dead looks great doesn't mean "x" movie should look just as good simply because it is more recent or costs more money. Give it a rest.

I will agree with a previous poster that people are blowing these transfers way out of proportion.

* There is no EE.

* There is no DNR.

* They are pure 1080p. No upscaling, or other tricks.

* The movies are much better framed than ever before. I can't believe I was watching incorrect framing all of these years.

* The movies have a GREAT level of detail, especially when compared to the DVDs.

* The colors are improved on the whole.

* The darkening, primarily on ANOES 4, is at least done the RIGHT way.

I can't comment on the audio, nor on New Nightmare. I'd say that this boxset is heavily worth its weight in gold.

Great if true.

Great. Too bad they couldn't get part5 uncut.

They are in 1.78. Not a fan of moving away from theatrical AR. Even if the difference is small. But great that they show more (alot more in part4)

Depends. But I love that there are improvements. Will love to watch them.

Not if there is black crush and not a fan of it if there is a huge difference from the theatrical showings. But at least it will be interesting to watch it with these changes, and part 4 needs every help in the world to make it more scary!

But I'll guess Ill by it (when I get a BD player ). To bad they couldn't get commentary tracks on all the films (from Englund maybe), that the art was better for it and that all the films were uncut.

Rocky Horror then, you think new line kept ANOES films in as poor as condition as Evil Dead was? Or worse? Were the negatives on fire?

I bring up Evil Dead because it shows that a film's budget doesn't matter. It's about the care you put into the Blu-ray.

For a more pertinent example, the original Nightmare On Elm Street had the smallest budget of the films and I thought that looked fantastic on Blu-ray, certainly far better than these screenshots of the sequels suggest.

What's the story with the bonus disc? I assume you live in the US?

Caps-a-holic compares the US DVDs with the new Blu Ray:
http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ID=613#auswahl

I think its much more interesting for most users here than the comparison with the German DVDs because the german DVDs have very strong compression issues and look different than the US Ones.

Example from Nightmare 3(sized to HD):

German DVD (click on Picture to enlarge):

US DVD:

As you can see the German DVD have more compression issues (blocking for example).
For US Viewers the SD/HD Comparisons from screenshotcomparison.com are a good example of what the BDs look like. But the difference in PQ will at least in terms of compression not be that bad.

So is there any place that has this? I just got an email from Amazon UK that said they have been notified that it's been delayed, and they have no word on how long. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine shipped early this morning.
Mine has been "Dispatching soon" since yesterday.
It better get here before November.

That's all I'm saying.

At least I can watch ANOES 1 before it gets here.

I think I'll only hit up 2-4 for sure. If I have time, I may marathon the rest. We'll see.
Make sure to post whenever you guys receive your copies AND have seen them, especially ANOES 4 since it had some darkening (not sharpening) occur that could improve the experience.

I take it that ANOES 1 will be the same exact US transfer? That would put my copies of ANOES 1 on Blu-ray at 3.
Will do, but it'll probably be two weeks.
Figures I sprung for expedited shipping to get this by Halloween, now my projector is down for 2 weeks, awaiting a back ordered bulb!

Had the chance to attend a special double feature last night screening of the original Nightmare and the new Nightmare. I'm not sure if the print for NOES was an original from '81 or one that was done later but it looked really really good. The HD transfer on the Blu-ray is very close in detail. The only difference is some color timings (blue tint was added for some scenes on the BD). The sound was also in glorious original mono so all the sound effects and music were there.

I haven't seen the BD of New Nightmare so I can't compare it to the print I saw. I will say the soundtrack is really well done. Underrated film too.

Not there yet, but here's what I know so far.

Disc one is the same as the US disc according to the Oppo's resume function- however the screen-printed art on the disc itself is different than it's American counterpart as it uses the classic "Nightmare" logo.
The bonus disc is a DVD, and is it's content encoded as PAL and R2.
I'll probably watch Freddy's Revenge tonight and 3 tomorrow. Take thursday off and knock out some more over the weekend.

I wouldn't imagine that 6 doesn't have the 3D ending as there are no glassess inside the pack

Pretty unimpressive packaging to be sure.

Disc 1 is the same as the US release, and Disc 2 -- which doesn't even indicate which movies are on it (neither do discs 3 and 4!) -- is, I'm guessing, the same as the US release also. That would probably mean the other films will also be released as double-feature Blu-Rays in the US at some point.
