laptop for HTPC

Thread Starter
Well I have for example a dell e6500.
windows 7 ultimate w/ media center
Has hdmi/1080p/digital audio capabilities
Has a solid state hard drive so its nice and quiet, near silent.
blueray players/ burners are available.
Pros cons???
Of course I'd need to say usb3 external hard drive for storage.
I would connect this to my fairly high end/ though not so newfangled Sony vpl-vw100 that does 1080p/60
And my Onkyo receiver Tx-sr604
The dell has a "video port" and I know I need an hdmi adapter hopefully this will send digital audio as well.
So I wont be gaming just trying to play some hd and other movies, stream netflix, etc.
Want to get the best image out of my projector w/o shelling out for external video processors.

if your dell has an HDMI with audio port, that's what you'd want to use to connect it to your TV, no adapter would be necessary.

the question really comes up to you as to whether you want to dedicate the laptop to HTPC duties since then it fairly defeats its mobility options. I'm not sure what video card is in that system either which would determine your picture quality.

Btw, you could always get a wireless HDMI device like the Brite-View AirSync and then make your life easier for connecting your laptop to your TV wirelessly

Hope that helps
