About the real mission to space in the 1970s that was canceled by NASA.

Bad enough that there are cretins who say we never went there in the first place and that the half million men and women who worked on the project all have kept the secret and now this.

Awesome. Blair Witch on the moon!

Crew member goes nuts and tries to kill the others?

Anyway, I'll be interested in the explanation by the writers of how the launch of a Saturn 5 rocket was done back then without anyone noticing it....

God, how I hate these types of 'movies." Has to be the laziest form ever. Don't have to bother with angles, lighting, or coherence. Just jiggle the camera around and all lapses in movie-making are explained.

lol So true I know a few people like that. Everything is a conspiracy!

Conspiracy theorists just want life to be more exciting than it is. Sorry, dude, you're not Jack Bauer, you're just someone with too much time on their hands.

Anyway, I might give this a look-see. I don't mind Blair Witch ripoffs inspired films if they take the premise from a new angle. I do like how they make whatever excuse they can to keep filming when in real life the camera would have been left behind.

Launched from a once-secret location in Khazakstan, perhaps? A spot now known for Directv sat launches?

Interesting that this particular film shares something w/ the latest Transformers movie - a NASA/Moon-related conspiracy. Granted, Michael Bay looks to have gone all in & "reimagined" the Apollo 11 flight as a Transformer recon mission.

I see this as a potentially entertaining renter.

But wait...the Cigarette Smoking Man was the 2nd gunman during the JFK assassination! I know it's true - I saw it on the X Files!!!!!

+1

If nothing else, entertaining.

I caught this as a Redbox rental (it's one of the newest.) I have to say I liked it and was worth the $1 or so. As I posted before, I like "found footage" films if they have a new angle and can somehow do the constantly filming camera conceit (where in real life no one in their right mind would keep filming.) Since this is a moon landing, cameras are going to be on the guys at all times, so that's not a problem.

It's not perfect. The whole secret launch of a Saturn V isn't explained at all, really. Not to mention the Russians also getting a lander on the Moon without us knowing is also taken for granted. But once they get to the moon, it's really atmospheric stuff, and actually looks pretty realistic (maybe a bit too realistic, since it's supposed to be 1974 tech.)

The acting is good, many of the scenes are genuinely creepy, and the suspense really moves it along. It doesn't have the "getting to know the characters until all hell breaks loose" footage that tends to slow down this genre. It gets to the point fairly quick.

The bonus features really show the different directions the story could have taken. I'm usually one for just stick to one plot in a movie, but somehow this one had some interesting deleted scenes.

^Perfect illustration of the logic used by the conspiracy nuts.

Lines up with a more serious story: the 'Spare CHange' 9/11 bunk although I personally doubt we could have landed on the moon in the 60s,sorry. The latter theory is total garbage to say the least!

Landing is easy, the trick is to return to earth.

Watched the BD tonite with the wife.
We both thought it was a "variation on a theme" of Blair Witch.

NOT to denigrate the movie in any way, because the results are excellent.
Very clever....very much an edge-of-your-seat flick.

IMO, worth a Rental.

I enjoyed it!

I imagine so much fun could be had by running this material through the "faked moon landing" treatment...shadows, lighting, artifacts?
