Martin Logan Motion series speakers

Hi All,

Could someone pls share their experience using the Motion 10 as fronts and Motion 8 as center? I plan to purchase the same and want to have a second opinion from someone who has used them.

I've listened to the above speakers in a BestBuy magnolia but u never know how the speakers are configured in those stores so would want to get know from folks who have used these speakers.

Btw, they sounded awesome. I'm trying to set these speakers in a 12 ft X 10 ft room and want to also know whether the Motion 10s would suffice rather than the Motion 12s as fronts.

Thanks.

I heavily prefer the motion 12's over the motion 10's, especially in the midrange area.

Thanks Rick.

Do you think these motion 10s or 12s would sound better than the Klipsch reference series speakers?

Better is a relative term. I demoed some of the motion 12s and some wall mounted motion 4s against some DT 8040s and B&W 683s.

To my ears the B&Ws had the best midrange and highs, followed by the other 2 which were about even with the MLs having and edgier sound.

The motion 4s with the Motion 8 and motion 2s sounded really good during a movie demo but the 4s were really thin in the midrange for music.

The 12s were much better for music.

I recently demoed some Klipsch RF 52IIs and 62IIS against some DT 8020s and 8060s. The klispch were exceptionally bright in the highs during music. So much so it was kind of uncomfortable at volume.

I liked the forward and detailed midrange though. The DTs were quite a bit more laid back though both sounded good, just different. I preferred the klipsch mid-range.

Now from memory I'll say I liked the mid-range of the klipsch better than the MLs and the MLs had less harshness in the highs though still a little harsh compared to the B&Ws.

For music I to my ear the ML 12s would be my preference. For movies the Klipsch would be hard to beat for the price. The efficiency and detail during the movie demos was really great.

I guess if I had to pick one for both I would lean toward the MLs if music listening was going to be even a little important.

My favorite part about these speakers are the tweeters... very detailed and crisp. You might as well buy the Motion 12 towers for fronts if you plan on listening to music on these, as Martin Logan has recently reduced the price of these towers from $750 to $600 each. The Motion 10s used to be regularly $500 each, so for $100 more you get the extra woofer on the 12 for better mids. And why are the Motion satellites gloss black but the towers are just flat black wood laminate. Martin Logan was too cheap to apply a gloss finish on their towers?

Also, all the Motion speakers are rated at 4ohms. You may need a 4ohms-capable receiver if you plan on listening loud.
