Thank you for the info.
Where do you find the Digital color Format in Nvida control panel?

In the NVidia control panel under "Adjust desktop color settings -> Digital color format" you could extend the options from "RGB, YCbCr444"

I don't post very often, but I wanted to thank everyone that to contributed to this thread. A few weeks ago I purchased an Acer K330 and Favi 100 inch fixed frame screen and have been very happy with it. I have it in a light controlled basement, ceiling mounted with Directv and PS3 as the video sources. I do find myself having to adjust the focus usually once after I turn it on each session, but it is easy for me to do it so I can live with that since it is an entry level projector. I already had a receiver and surround sound setup so this was an easy low cost way to get a great projector setup.

I have had a couple of projectors in the past, but I really like that this one is LED so I don't have to worry about the bulb and can be comfortable using it for everyday use even if for short periods of time.

Thanks for the great information provided!

Now I read the whole thread. The focus thing seems to be a big deal.
How many people are using the PJ actually for a long time and convinced?
How many peoply have uneven focus? How many only have the heat up thing?

Thanks for reply

My focus changes after it's been on for a a few minutes. It stays pretty consistent after that, so I've learnt to leave it "unfocused" until it warms up. Text is slightly out of focus in the top right corner of the screen most of the time, but it's still readable and fine for everything else.

I've had mine since October 2011 and am still very happy with it. I've not bothered with 3D as I'm on Linux and too lazy.

I posted a week ago that I had this projector and was enjoying it except for having to re focus it once every time I started it up. It didn't bother me much, but my wife started not caring for that issue so I ended up returning it. I have since bought the LG PA75U from best buy which cost a little more, but doesn't have the start up focus issue. It has a different issue regarding focus in that I have two corners that I can't get to be focused at the same time and I have tried 2 units. I can get them both just slightly out of focus which I think will be acceptable to me just need to try it for a little longer. Video looks fine in those corners, text is just a bit soft.

The corner focus problem is common with the PA70, which is the PA75 without the tuner. You can check out the PA70G thread for all the details, but the gist is that the only solutions are to keep exchanging the unit until you get a well focused unit, or take it apart and adjust the lens screws.

Are you finding the PA75 any brighter than the K330?

I didn't do a side by side comparison, but to my eye it did seem brighter. I don't think the difference was very much in a dark room, but the PA75 seems a little better when a little ambient light is present.

Yeah, I had read thru the PA70G thread which was why I had already exchanged it once. I did another exchange last night so I am now on my 3rd PA75U and this one is a keeper. The focus is uniform and the picture is great. The 2nd unit had a March 2013 manufacture date and this 3rd one with good focus is a February 2013 manufacture date. So it seems it is just hit or miss for getting one with good focus.

I'm having an issue with my Acer K330. I bought it back in 12/2011 and made great use of it during the 2012 Presidential Campaign. I hooked it up a few weeks ago at a meeting to show a powerpoint, and the controls didn't work reliably. For example, pushing the source switch didn't display the source in the lower right corner like it normally does, and it didn't always change the source input. I also can't get it into the mode to do a firmware upgrade...that menu won't come up. It seems like it's a bit brain damaged. Is there a way to sort of re set the whole thing?

donc:
1280x720 @ 119.805
1280x800 @ 119.801

succeeded the first time on nvidia but then blur infrared transmitter ect ... blah. My neighbor lent me his 280 gtx ..
the walkthrough .... on amd of course, very simple:

no hack. inf not need to go into the registry either for edid .... it's ... it's

CRU 1.0! (Custom Resolution Utility) google and your friend.

I really enjoy my Acer K330. Recently the fan became clogged with dust even though i have used homemade filters since getting it. I had to blow out the dust with an air compressor and when i turned it back on i had three or four dust blobs. How hard is it to clean the lenses? I don't think i'm under warranty anymore so just wondering how complicated this is. I saw the breakdown earlier in the thread and it doesn't look too difficult, though more involved than any projector i have cleaned before.
Very cool! I have been using an H5360 .inf so that I can 3D game with my GTX 650. Will this work with 3D vision or will get the red error message?
You can not use CRU (custum resolution utility) with 3D Vision.

CRU puts the display into test mode, causing the display to be seen as generic plug and play.

Nvidia needs to see the Acer H5360 EDID override you used or it will not activate.

CRU works fine with AMD Radeon cards using TriDef.

If you use a resolution other than 1280x720@120HZ using the H5360 override, you will get the red error message.

If you go thru the posts by Coolmania, he'll tell you how to remove the red error using PE explorer.

I think he mentions another way to do it as well.

You can then just use Nvidia's Custom Resolutions to make a 1280x800@120Hz resolution..

Thanks. That is what i figured. What is the advantage of 1280x800 over 1280x720? Is there any? Also now one of my fans is failing. When i start it it sounds terrible. If i shut it off and turn it back on a lot of times eventually it quiets down. I think its unbalanced. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement fan?

Update: The fan is unbearably loud now, it also fails on occasion. I tried to unplug the offending fan but it will not work unless all three are plugged in. I found a couple of replacements and i will replace it soon. Still have the dust blobs though, has anyone cleaned the optics?

I've gone through this forum extensively but couldn't find a solid answer on whether Acer k330 supports 3d via HDMI when connected to a blueray Player !

Also , I'd like to know whether its worth watching 3d Movies from a Laptop ! the video / 3d quality ????

Whats the max resolution / screen size can this PJ display .. ? 250 inch ???

Can somebody (who has got a acer k330 ) can clarify me the above questions !

Many Thanks!
@ yengko
According to other comments, I would say that the K330 does not support 3D from Bluray players. As far as I know, a 3D picture from a bluray player over HDMI is transmitted as two side by side pictures, this at 60Hz . I almost sure that the K330 can not process side by side 3D pictures.

What it can do is it can process alternate left-right frames at 120Hz . Which means that 3D from a PC that can process the side by side pictures and then send them alternately at 120Hz is supported by the K330.

Your other questions are a bit more subjectives.
"3d Movies from a Laptop" , do you mean by pluging the K330 to the laptop?
If the laptop is powerfull enough to decode the movie file and to produce the 120Hz 3D signal, this is as good as with another desktop PC (so you'll need a discret GPU in this laptop)

" max resolution / screen size can this PJ display"
The native resolution of the K330 is 1280x800 but it accept up to 1920x1080 in input.
The max screen size will depends on your liking and on the room you use.
The further the proj will be from the screen, the more the room will need to be dark.
The type of screen could play a role as well (bare wall, cloth screen, ... )
Some people like their colors crisp, others do not mind colors a bit washed out.

I personnaly watch movies on a white wall for the moment (its paint is a bit to reflective) at about 110 inch diagonal. At that size, in a dark room, the colors are great and the image quality is good during playback (not blurry, no visible pixels) of movies.

The maximum I have tried was about 150 inch diagonal (the ceiling was the limit smile.gif ) in a dark room and it was still okay but i think pixels were visible during playback when seated at less than 4 meters (13 feet I guess). It was still awesome. (I played some Dirt2 games and I was like in the car smile.gif )

I can not say for 250 inch diagonal.

Hope it helps a bit,

Thanks a lot Tahen !

My acer k330 just arrived .

I really like it and playing with all the functions.

But still , i have not yet tried the 3D features !

Still , I'm not clear how to play 3d movies with this Projector.

I already have a Laptop and desktop but lacks 3D features !

1 .What kind of PC / Laptop do i need to buy ?

Any Laptop Model or Graphic card ....

2. How do i connect my Laptop/Desktop to the Projector?

Through VGA Cable or HDMI ? Will it work on both ?

3. What kind of Glass is required ?

DLP Link Glasses ....

4. Can i get 120hz 720p through ordinary 1.2/1.3 hdmi cable as described in the link below using nvidia 3dvision 2 kit

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1374337/acer-k330-how-to-get-the-3d-picture

5. Can you please explain how i can achieved the above and all the required tools (laptops /glasses / etc etc ) ?

Many Thanks once again for your support !

Thanks

Hi !!!

I have another question !

The acer k330 supports only 3d when connected to laptop VGA (with a inbuilt 3d enable card ) .

Will this Projector (3D) works if i connect the projector to a Bluray 3d player hdmi out put with a HDMI to VGA converter ???

HDMI TO VGA CONVERTER !!

Can somebody plz enlighten me ,,,,, plz..!!!

@yengko post 921
I'm glad I could help.

1. You need something with either an AMD or an NVidia GPU.
I do not really know AMD 3D solution apart from the fact that it is mainly done by a third party software, TriDef.
You have some info on how to do it in comments above.
For NVidia, you'll need a compatible GPU and compatible software players for movie files or blu rays.
French NVidia website gives more details than the US site and is still understandable for non-French people (I think).
There is a list of compatible desktop PC (PC de Bureau), laptop (Ordinateur Portable) and graphic card (Processeur graphique Geforce): http://www.nvidia.fr/object/3d-vision-requirements-fr.html
And they indicate 3D Blu ray player software: http://www.nvidia.fr/object/3d-blu-ray-software-players-fr.html

2. Both VGA and HDMI will work. In theory, HDMI should be better for image quality (digital vs analog).

3. For the NVidia 3D vision, you will at least need a 3DVision emitter to activate the 3D as it seems that the dongle way no longer works (according to other commenters). From there, you could either use NVidia 3DVision glasses (good, large lenses) synchronized with the 3DVision emitter or you could use 3D DLP glasses (good, zero crosstalk, multiple models/prices) synchronized with the K330 (you would need to cover the 3DVision emitter to avoid interferences).

I personally prefer the 3D DLP link glasses synchronized with the projector as the K330 allows to easily switch left/right eyes with this solution. This is sometimes necessary depending on the software you used (most games do not allow to switch eyes but movie players usually allow it).
I choose Acer e2w glasses (light an branches can be folded) and Volfoni 3D DLP glasses (large lenses, not foldable branches but fine enough to be used with big headphones).

4. I do not really know whether 1.4 HDMI is really needed or not. I use a 10 meters DVI capable with an DVI to HDMI plug at the end.

5. The following post on the thread you linked in your post sums up most of the post that have been made on the K330 thread and on its clones’ threads (W500, ...) about the detailed configuration steps with NVidia 3DVision:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1374337/acer-k330-how-to-get-the-3d-picture#post_22450621

Basically, these steps are:
(-install latest NVidia drivers if not already done and plug an NVidia 3DVision emitter (I guess the dongle hack no longer works to simulate an emitter...))
- H5360 EDID override: to make your K330 look like a 3DVision Ready projector under Windows so NVidia 3DVision can be activated in 1280x720 resolution or even 1280x800 with some modified EDID files.
- create a custom 120Hz resolution under windows
- use PE Explorer software to remove overlay warning message in NVidia drivers

Also:
- Switch to 3D mode in the K330 menu if you chose 3D DLP glasses.
- find a good stereoscopic player for movie files (I use the one from 3dtv.at) or use something like totalmedia theater for blu rays. (I guess it is compatible with 3d DLP but I never tried. There should be threads about this on avsforum).
- Have fun.

The K330 support 3D with both VGA and HDMI. It needs to be 120Hz 3d signal (left eye then right eye or right then left)
I think thie product you linked would just convert the HDMI digital signal to an analog VGA signal.
If the blu ray player only produce 60Hz side-by-side (left eye + right eye picture on the same frame) , this product will not be able to convert that to 120Hz 3d.

The kind of product you would like to try to use a 3d blu ray player with the K330 is something like the Optoma 3D XL.
I do not know if it really works with the K330.
There are posts about that on Avsforum.

Hi,

Any idea on how it compares to the Acer K132. Newer model but has almost the same specs (720p, 500 lumen). Heard that it
has a slightly different DLP chip (TI TRP chip), not sure what real life difference does it make though.

Was looking to buy an led projector for my dorm room but not sure if I should go for the K330 which seems tried and tested vs the newer Acer
model.

Appreciate any comments.

Thanks
Hi all,

In two days, it will be one year since I bought my K330.
I just recently found that the picture projected by the K330 has become a bit blurrier.
It is not noticeable in movies but video games (from PC through HDMI) are blurrier than before.

When looking at the configuration Menu (the one with the grid test pattern behind it) with no input signal, I can see that chromatic aberration appears where it was not before.
I used to see distinct dots in the letters of the words on this menu.
Now the dots are a lot less distinct and I can clearly see chromatic aberration around them.

My questions are:
Can it get worse?
Can it be fixed?
For those who got the K330 for a long time, have you seen a decrease in picture quality?
Does anyone as tried to return the K330 to the store/Acer for this kind of problem and got it fixed?

I think the warranty is only one year on this product so I have to decide quickly if I try to return it to the store in the next days (like tomorrow).

Tn

Edit:
I think it starts to look like the first picture in post #201: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1344147/acer-k330-led-1280x800/180#post_21042568
I am wondering if the plastic lens could wear out with time. Is it possible?
