HTPC build with Windows XP Professional

I am in the process of researching components for a HTPC using a Core i3 processor and wanted to know if Windows XP professional is an acceptable operating system to use or do I need to get Windows 7. Hate to spend an extra $100 when I have a copy of XP professional already. All help is appreciated.

Acceptable, yeah sure. You just don't have the option of using Windows Media Center but there are a number of front-ends/10' UI you can use such as XBMC, Media Portal, N-PVR, etc.

Thank you very much. I was thinking of using XBMC Live. Any feedback on that?

XBMC does not support recording or viewing live tv. You would have to use NPVR for that.
