Hi, I was given a used Hitachi 57F59J from my neighbor who couldn't fit it in his place, he got it from a third party who couldn't move it into their new 3rd story place. Anyways, I can't contact him for help because I don't know where he moved to, but he said the TV works fine and he played his PS3 on it. He mentioned that I might need a "cable card" to watch tv on it. But the inputs should still work, if he was playing his PS3 on it, right?
Wanting to hook up my X-box 360. Tried using input 1 and HDMI cable, got nothing. Blank screen, no audio. Menus on the tv display fine. Tried S-video, got nothing. Tried the basic red/yellow/white connections on Input 5 on the front and inputs 1&2 on the back.
Also, when switching between inputs, the screen goes black (including menus) for a split second like it was switching displays correctly, but nothing happens when Cable is selected.
I also tried hooking up my dvd player, it has the basic red/yellow/white connections and also displayed no video or audio.
Couple bits of information that may or may not be relevant to my case...The "Set Virtual HD" option from the menu was greyed out last night, as in unselectable, it just skipped over it on the menu, but this morning it is there and I am able to select 720p or 1080i. Not sure if this could be the reason I was getting no picture on HDMI, but it seems unlikely, because I can't even get the regular cables to work.
If you guys could help me that would be great. Would prefer to be able to hook it up with the regular red/yellow/white cables for now, even though it's an inferior picture, just to make sure my tv works. I returned the HDMI cable because I was frustrated, so I will pick up another one if I can confirm that my TV is working, or at least figure out what repair it needs.
