Recommendation Needed

Looking for any suggestions or recommendations for a home theater system. We are looking for either 2.1 or 3.1 speaker system for our Sony Bravia HDTV non 3D and Sony Blu Ray BDP-S780 player. Price is not really an issue as long as they produce good quality sound for watching TV and DVD and Netflix Streaming.

We have looked into the Bose CineMate Series II for about $599 which is about fine. Any other suggestions would be gladly welcome.

Thanks

Victor

No we do not have a receiver. Thanks for the reply. Can you suggest also whether and HDMI inputs gives better sound quality then a RCA connections to the speakers ?

So your budget is just $600 for speakers and receiver?

HDMI inputs are the only inputs that allow for decoding of HD audio soundtracks like Dolby True HD or DTS-HD Master Audio

I would try to stretch the budget for a receiver - I use HDMI for
digital and analog - everything sounds good to me.

do you have a HD cable/sat box too? you didn't mention it.

if you get the cambridge speakers and emotiva sub you are probably around $850 so far and still need a receiver. Are you willing to spend $400 on a receiver or does it need to be cheaper.

you really should provide a budget, it would be helpful for all involved.

Although only slightly above your budget and dependent on sales, I got:

Sony str-hd810 avr hdmi receiver-$200
Pioneer Fs51 towers $200
Pioneer sp-c21 center $80
Outlaw M8 subwoofer $212

Sorry for the lack of information. Our budget is not an issue so something more expensive if worth it. The only issue is that the space we have to work with is about 12x12 room.

Do we need the receiver ? What is the advantage of installing a receiver ?

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. We really do not have a budget at this point so please feel to make more expensive choices. Also we do have Comcast so a cable box receiver which has only a HDMI output connection no RCA or Component connections. Sorry that I did not mention it.

Happy 4th of July.

The Bose system is self-powered, and the advantage is price. A Bose setup is powered from the subwoofer unit, so if anything breaks you can only replace with those same Bose parts. By purchasing a receiver you gain flexibility and sound quality. A speaker setup will need to be powered, so that is where the receiver comes in.

You can read the link right above my post for more details. You can get a far greater quality sound setup by choosing a receiver and speakers + subwoofer. This gives you flexibility to pick whatever you like. You can also start out with 2 speakers, for stereo sound and transition to a 5.1 speaker setup for true surround sound.

Edit: HDMI provides best picture quality while providing best sound quality, so HDMI > RCA. If you play something that is recorded with quality sound, the difference is night and day

Many thanks for the information. I was not aware of the fact that HDMI provides the best video and sound quality when it comes to viewing a DVD. We also were not aware of the fact of having a receiver can make a difference when it comes to sound quality but it also allows one to upgrade their configuration. So we will surely look into one. The above link does provide alot of information that we were not aware of. Good reading.
