Onkyo HT-R690 HDMI Through Issues.

Hey guys, I recently bought the Onkyo HT-S7400 system that comes with the HT-R690 receiver and I've been having issues with the HDMI through feature...this is what's going on....When the receiver is in stand by and I'm watching cable TV, the sound and picture are good, I have no problems at all, and when I turn my 360 on, the receiver switches to the 360 signal without any issues....problem is, once I turn the 360 off, the receiver doesn't switch back to the cable signal, so all I get on my TV screen is a "no signal" message. I have browsed the receiver's menus and set up the HDMI through to auto, last , etc. Nothing seems to fix this issue; I also did a firmware update, but that also didn't solve the problem. This is my second Onkyo system, I had a lower Onkyo home theater model before, that started having issues with the HDMI through after only 20 days, so I returned it and got the one mentioned on this thread. At this point I'm losing all hope on Onkyo and unless I can find a way around the HDMI issue I'm having, I'll be returning this model and saying good bye to Onkyo all together. Any suggestions or tips to fix this issue, if it can be fixed?

P.S. My bugget is between 500 and 1000 dollars and I really want a home theater system, so if you can recommend anything else besides Onkyo, I'll appreciate it. I chose Onkyo, because it seems to be the system that most talk about, but now I realize that is also the system that most complaint about.

Thanks for your help. Take care all.

Does it work correctly if you turn the cable box OFF when you turn the xBox 360 to ON and then after turning the xBox 360 OFF, turn the cable box back on again?

Ok, so I don't get confused....lol....I'm watching TV, turn my xbox on, the receiver switches to the xbox signal without a problem....I turn the xbox off, the receiver doesn't switch back to the cable signal and I get is the "no signal" message from my tv, not the receiver of course.....I did try what you said, but differently, I unplugged the HDMI cable from the back of the receiver and plugged back on, the receiver I guess found the signal and switched to cable. Problem is, it seems to be the only way it works. I tried the routine I mentioned above and same happens.

Thanks for the help by the way, I'll be waiting for your next response. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Onkyo RIHD... but it may require you to power cycle each device as shown below when the Onkyo is in Standby:

1. Turn cable box ON to watch cable.
2. Turn cable box OFF when done.
3. Turn xBox ON to watch xBox.
4. Turn xBox OFF when done.
5. Turn cable box ON to watch cable.
(and so forth and so on)

Hey Jd, I tried what you said, it worked that one time, meaning, once I turned the cable box back on, after it was off for about 15 seconds, the receiver got the signal and switched to cable TV, however, I tried again to turn my Xbox on and then off to see if it switch back to cable, but this was not the case, I got the same no signal message from my TV. I turned the cable box off again and it worked, so I guess either this Onkyo requires a power cycle each time or the HDMI out is deffective...what do you think? Thanks for the help by the way.

Did you read the owners manual?

HDMI switching during standby(from every single receiver that does this; Marantz, Denon, Sony, Pioneer etc) requires a power on/off to switch.

Period.

Hey Schan, actually, the lower Onkyo model I had before this one, used to switch back and forth whenever a device was turned off and a HDMI signal was still present, and as for the instructions manual, nothing is mentioned about power cycles.

The one you had before must have been special. Every receiver I've tried "HDMI switching in stand-by" with requires things turned off, then the next thing turned on.
