LCD or LED

I'm currently looking for a 46"-55" flat panel TV. The seating positions range from 7'-13'. It will be used for mostly everyday TV,blue rays and some gaming. I have been looking @ Sony's,Toshiba's & Panny's but am open to any suggestions on manufactures except LG cause I have 2 and both were in the shop within the first year. I don't know much about LED's except that they're a little pricier. I'd like to stay around $1500. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There's two types of backlights in LCD tv's.

LED and CCFL.

This is a technical forum guy, not so much a sales/buying forum. Better result could be obtained by narrowing down to the exact TVs you are interested in, THEN read all the posts pertaining to those models and go from there.

Since you are asking a very basic, newbie question, please those stickies, the first few threads of this forum should have lots of get-u-started infos.

From what I have read LED backlit and edge lits have flashlighting and clouding issues exactly because of there lighting design.

From what I have found by checking specs LEDs are not much if any in some cases more energy efficient. I checked manufacturer websites comparing their straight up LCD model to their closest LED LCD model and you will be surprised how little wattage difference there is. Personally I am staying away from LED and 3D until the tech has matured and standardized. Just my two cents.........good luck.

Edge lit is more prone to screen imperfections than back lit. That's why back lit local dimming LED/LCD TVs cost more than equivalent side lit LED/LCDs.

Gentlemen, thanks for your input. Any continued suggestions/comments are very much appreciated. I will keep you posted as my endeavor continues.MrBobb, thanks for your suggestion on where to search the forum for information.I posted a similar question last year when I purchased my current big screen and received a generous amount of advice. Since then my TV budget has increased and I'm looking for my first 1080p.

In general led Local Dimming are the best performing LCd's, second is ccfl LCd ( a really expensive Edge Lit - with Local Dimming - might be an exception) and third is Edge Lit led.

This is how CNET looks at it _> http://reviews.cnet.com/2795-6482_7-399.html
