JVC DLA-HD250 or Panasonic pt-ae4000..pls advise

While I'm certainly not the one to help, I can tell you that you will get a lot better responses if you state what you are trying to use it for, what your room size is, whether you have ambient light, if you are going to use a screen, etc etc.

What is more critical, more viewing/setting options or picture quality?

I have the older Panny Ax-200u and I wouldn't buy another Panny if that tells you anything. From what I have heard the JVC is on another level than the Panny or Epson.

The hd250 is exactly the same as the rs10 so look for reviews on that. The real contrast ratio on the jvc is significantly higher than the Panny. Frame interpolation isn't a big deal for most people. Personally I think that the hd250 is in a higher class when watching movies.

With that being said, I think that the jvc rs40 is a better value than the hd250. You have no idea how awesome 3d can be until you've seen it on something like the rs40. If that is out of your price range then I don't think you can go wrong with the hd250.

HD250 unless you NEED the lens memory feature of the 4000, for an extra ~$300 worth it IMHO.

~$300 more? The Panny is going for around 2K. Where are you finding the JVC for $2300????

You can find it for that price if you look hard. Just be careful who you purchase from....make sure they are reputable dealers.

I'd also recommend the HD250 over the panny. Only thing the panny has over the JVC is the lens memory feature. Everything else is better on the HD250 (my opinion).

Hey md_02, everyone's given you pretty consistent advice. That said, here's some more.

The Panasonic will produce more lumens when you want max (ie for sports viewing). Lens memory is cool, but...

the real issue is Sept 7th. That's the first day of CEDIA, and Panasonic will (with near 100% certainty) be showing their new 3D replacement for the PT-AE4000. Pricing, etc. all unknown, but sure to be an interesting product, especially since it may well be the first 3LCD 3D home theater projector to hit... That said, JVC's have great pictures, even if the HD250 behaves like the RS10 and not the RS15 (specs closer to the 2 gen old RS10), black levels will be at least as good as the Panny, and without needing a dynamic iris. Overall, typically JVC's lower end projectors do not have the color controls of the more expensive ones, so getting perfect color is usually challenging. In other words, while the results can be great, the RS20/25/35/50/60... should have better color management. I say that, however without being able to lay my hands on one.

I had a Panasonic AE40000U, sold it and replaced with JVC HD250. I echo what someone said - JVC HD250 is better. A lot quieter and better handling of blacks.
