Folks;
The HX820 is simply a Great TV-Could not be more pleased-adjusted settings per many posts on the forum & just a Fabulous picture! Added the CT-150 & really works fine for me, living in a townhouse with folks on both sides. Wish all the Best-Jerry

Also if you plan to rent Priest and have access to the Vudu streaming app--give them a try over Amazon. While Amazon is an excellent service unlike the others, Vudo streams full 1080P ( DVX) and Dolby Digital + sound

Also, you gave me some ideas about where to place my new Sony Sub--since its wireless I think I'll move it around to the back of my room tomorrow-and give it a try

Welcome to the world of edge lit LED....my set has it as well but only to a minor degree.

Yea, I usually do Vudu for the HDX 1080p. I think the sound is better too. But for some reason, I thought Amazon had Priest in 3D (looked last night and I was wrong.) I typically rent from Vudu though.

As a side note, I called Netflix AGAIN last night to express my discontent with the fact they offer ZERO 3D movies through the mail or streaming. They gave me the same answer as always. There just aren't enough people asking for it so until there is demand they won't have any. I find that hard to believe, but again, I know they have a massive customer base.

Got the TV 2weeks back. Amazing TV. Picture is simply great. I have one issue if you guys can help me. One of the reason I got this TV is the distant alert feature. It alerts when the kids are very close to TV. That feature is not working. I have already replaced the tv once. Let me know if there is any setting I am missing. I see distant alert is on in my tv, but just dont work.

same here. doesn't work. Have seen the message pop up once saying you are too close. but other than that one time it didn't work. i checked the camera and it definitely can detect the face, but probably not that good in calculating the distance

It only seems to work with small children. I tested it with my 5 year old niece when she was over last weekend... It would pop up the message when she was standing about 3 feet away from the TV. She had to stand there still for about 10 seconds before it alerted. Oddly, it didn't work with my 8 year old nephew...but I'm not sure he stood there long enough, or he's too tall (4.5 feet maybe) for it to consider him a small child. I tried standing and kneeling in front of it, and it ignored me. It also ignores my wife who is 4' 11". It worked every time with my neice though.

"Distance Alert Identifies child viewers and ensures that a suitable viewing distance is maintained. If children approach within about 1 m of the screen, the picture turns off with a warning message and warning sound. "

There will be no sound if muting is on, or sound is set to output via an audio system.
This function is designed for children. On the menu screen for [Distance Alert], child viewers identified by the sensor are framed in yellow and adult viewers in white. Depending on certain conditions, such as the direction a viewer is facing, the function may not work properly.
The function works when children are less than about 1 m (3 ft.) from the screen. There may be cases in which the function works outside of the detection range.
The function may not work properly if a child runs towards the TV.
The volume and muting buttons can be used to control sound levels while the picture is turned off. By pressing any other button (except the power button), the picture can be momentarily displayed."

Yea, I use it on my PS3. It's a little pricey for my taste, but it looks great. I just wish a new, HDX rental was more in the 3.99 range. 5.99 is too much in my opinion.

I agree--surprising that Walmart charges premium prices on their Vudu service--LOL However, their 1080P Dolby Digital+ is really a superior product.

Did you try out the Sony 3D Experience app on your TV? While only 3D clips, its still more free--3D content to play around with. Qriocity also has a free 3D section.

Here is my latest update. Oddly enough, I have done what I typically never do. I've moved it closer to the original out of box settings and turned on some of the features. I have included the 3D settings as well in parentheses. Since I made these common settings, they change back to 2D/3D automatically. I don't have to tweak these individually when watching 3D.

My sources are as follows, all with HDMI.

Here's my 55HX820 setup with the newest addition Sony Sound Bar The HT-CT550W. The Sub-woofer is wireless so I am still moving it around to see what works best.

Aqua: These are some pretty good settings. Thanks for doing all this work! ( I already gave up on the menu--my family couldn't take my fiddling-around anymore LOL)

I came to the same conclusion as you. While not perfect the HX820 out-of-the-box /Default settings are pretty good. I do have a few favorites that I keep set at my own preference namely: LED Dynamic Control: Standard, and Black Corrector: High.

Also, I found that I prefer the BackLight set a little higher than most between 6-8. I did notice though that if I turn down the backlight and increase the Gama to +2, I get a similar look.

Now I haven't had a chance to test this out on my 3D content--so your suggestions on this are also very helpful.

Great looking setup you've got there. Mind if I ask a few questions?
I see the soundbar sitting in front of the tv. Do you have it sitting on the pedestal stand base or in front of it. Also, did you have to raise the tv or not if not, does it interfere with the operation of the tv. I'm asking because I need to get something to better the sound coming from my nx720(the tv speakers are terrible). The 550 sounds like it will fit perfectly.

My final question is how do you connect everything so it will sync and is it easy.

I would say it's the skype camera. The hx820 has a built in 3d transmitter.

Hello. The TV does sit low on the stand. I placed the sound bar on the base of the stand. But the sound bar if placed in the middle like I have it doesn't cover up the IR sensor or the 3D transmitter so the remote works fine.--it does however, cover up the presence and distance sensor/camera in the middle of the TV. If I had another TV cabinet for this TV I would have preferred to put the sound bar on a shelf below the TV. But works fine as is for me.

Easy set up ( in minutes). If you use high-speed 1.4 HDMI cables (1.4 supports ARC-- Audio Return Channel) and from the Receiver TV "Out" plug it into the ARC HDMI slot on the TV, everything integrates like magic. This is how I have it configured and I am able to sync Receiver, blu-ray and TV on with either the TV remote ( my preference) or to the Receiver remote.

Correction: The Sound Bar does cover up the 3D transmitter if it is placed on the TV stand--I just moved it forward on the cabinet a bit so now none of the sensors/transmitter are covered up and all work as intended.

Oh ok. I was wondering why you need a 3d transmitter with this tv. Makes sense now.

And that looks pretty good. I might get that one too. But my living room is a bit too big (30 ft by 20 ft) and i am concerned about its performance in a large room like that.

Good observation. I went through two other less expensive Microsoft HD cameras that were compatible with the Sony Skype app and they really struggled with the distance--about 14' from my TV to sofa and chairs. I settled on the more expensive Sony CMU-BR100 - Skype camera because it handled the distance better.

You have a pretty big room for sure 20x30. Larger than the room I have this set up in( abt 15x14). For the price, this 3D sound bar is very good and if configured correctly produces plenty of volume, bass and "simulated" surround sound. A marked improvement over the HX820 built-in speakers. IMO affordable, quick & easy to set up, processes all the latest multichannel audio signals and integrates beautifully with the HX820. (However, I found mixed reviews on this sound bar on another avsforum and on Amazon--I can only wonder if some didn't set it up correctly, or they were expecting full 5.1 surround sound from a $350 sound bar.)

The next step up in the $500-$600 range is Sony's BDV-E780W Home theater system. Comes with a 780 blu-ray player and wireless back speakers. This is a true 5.1 surround sound system. If I didn't already have a blu-ray player I might have gone with this system as it produced some Big Booming sound when I listened to it in the store. The wireless back speakers are very appealing to me as well.

Of course there are other fantastic component true 5.1 and 7.1 systems out there that will easily fill a big room like yours. Some a little more money and others a lot more money. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for. I am sure others in this forum have some recommendations in this area as well.

I ended up purchasing my sound bar from an on-line store that allows for free shipping and returns--just in case it didn't work out for me :-)
