My opinion is that the 820 and 929 are both great sets. There are some advantages to the 929 full array LEDs with picture quality but is it worth the price difference to you. Don't go into debt over getting more TV than you can afford. Whether $xxx.xxx difference between the sets is worth it depends really on how much you have to spend. Have budget and stick too it!
As far as the size of the TV goes I would recommend the largest screen you can afford. I have never heard anyone say that after receiving and mounting their TV that they thought it was "too big".
Also if you buy from a place with a good return policy (ex. Amazon) then if it isn't right you can return it. Sometimes it is worth it to pay a little bit more for that piece of mind.
Also remember that HDTVs are still in the relatively early stages. There will be better ones in a few years and the money you save now buying just a great TV and not the ultimate one available now could go toward that next set, which will be better and less expensive. You can take the older TV and move it to a bedroom or den.
p.s- I have an 55HX820 with no crease or dead pixels that I can see after checking it from a couple inches away. But even if there was a barely perceivable flaw watching from my usual 9ft away it wouldn't be apparent. Check it out once thoroughly when you get it then sitback and enjoy it :-)
