So my plan had been to get some staining done early this week since the granite would be here towards the end of the week. That being said, I was pretty surprised when I got a call from the granite company today telling me they were in the area and could install this afternoon if that worked for me. What the heck... why not...






So I guess I'll now stain AFTER huh?

I'm pretty pleased with the color. I think it will look pretty sharp once the bar is stained to match the walnut stage.

Thanks. I've actually had a mixture of both types now. My original theater was in an enclosed space at the bottom of the stairs, but it did have an opening to the stairwell. Theater 2.0 was completely closed off. I really enjoyed that, but sometimes did lose touch with what was going on in the rest of the house, which could be good or bad. I was reluctant to actually move into a current home that didn't have a space walled off on all four sides, but the pros outweighed the cons here so I decided to give it a go. So far I've been pleased, but I'm really interested in seeing how the space pans out once the rest of the floor is the way I want it as well.

Ha! It's actually a powerstrip that all of the seats are plugged into. I eventually have plans to purchase battery packs for each of the seats so that I don't have to do that, but at $200 a pop, they had to move down the priority list a bit.

LOL!!! I thought you guy were talking about the power cords. HA! Nope, you hit the nail on the head with the Ipad holder. I'll take a picture later today of it holding the Ipad. It's actually pretty slick.

I haven't used it much yet other than to check some of my gaming stats while I'm playing I ultimately will use it for some kind of remote control / automation.

I did manage to get the stain and one coat of poly on the bar this past weekend. Here are a couple of pics of the progress:





The sun was starting to go down when i took these pictures from my phone, so there's some weird brightness and shadowing going on. I'm planning on finishing up with the poly this weekend, so I'll take some better pictures of the final product once I'm done there. One quick note - I went back and forth on how to do the poly and wanted to minimize any issues with the bar being in place and having vertical surfaces. I ultimately decided to go with the wipe-on poly from Minwax. It was really as was simple as pouring it on a rag and rubbing it in.

I think I also mentioned something earlier about the paint colors, but I never posted on the finalized colors we came up with. Here they are:



The far left and middle colors represent the ceiling above the theater area and the walls in the basement. Both will be a flat finish, and the ceiling will be sprayed on versus rolled. The paint I decided to go with was from the Cashmere line at Sherwin Williams. The lighter color on the far right is for the columns up front. I wanted something that would contrast with the rest of the room and really wanted the columns to be a showpiece on the stage. For that reason, I'm finishing them in either a high gloss or enamel. I know this goes against every theater rule when it comes to light reflection, but I want to make sure they really pop.

Painting takes place the first week of December, so I need to finish with the bar and patch a hole in the ceiling before that happens. Once complete, the next step will be installing the rack, trimming it out, and trimming out the opening where the projector currently sits.

For anyone that has any of the Palliser seats with the inserts for tray tables, this is a must have for your IPad. I totally love the whole Tony Stark look of it too.

Thanks! I ended up going with 2 coats of poly on the bar. It has just enough of a sheen without being too shiney, so I decided to stop there. I finally got around to patching the hole in the ceiling and then giving the area a quick cleaning so I figured it was time for some updated pictures.

Paint goes up in 11 more days, so I figured I should take this time to do a few before shots of the stage and columns before they're painted, as well as the side walls and ceiling.






We'll also be ordering some bar stools as soon as I sell the pub table that's currently in the room..Stay tuned.!!!

Thanks! Yea, it does get easier once you start having things like seating anchor the room down a bit. I agonized for weeks over placement of the bar because of that column next to it. Once our main bar is built, that space will be the primary traffic route through the area. Ideally the bar would be centered over the seats, but it would have been too tight. I think I sat on it for several weeks before finally pulling the trigger. I'm looking forward to seeing the area come together better after paint and bar stools.

Thanks. I'm loving the darker wood (it actually matches the cabinets in the rest of our house) but I think the colors will come out more, especially in the granite, once the paint goes up.

It's framed and drywalled - awaiting paint in a few weeks.

I still haven't bought the rack yet, but I'm looking to most likely knock that out before Christmas.

Found a 10% off coupon for Wayfair yesterday. I've been wanting to get some bar stools ordered for the 2nd row, but one of the requirements prior to ordering was that we sell the unused pub table and chairs in the basement first. Well, I put it up on Craigslist on Saturday and it was picked up yesterday. After selling it and ordering new stools, I still have $40 left. Does that mean I came out ahead?

Anyways, hoping to have 4 of these delivered sometime soon. Still waiting on shipment confirmation.
