Paint starts going up on Monday, and it looks like my bar stools are shipping today. Can't wait!

mnhokie, your room is looking good. I really like the screen wall columns and the bar. I'm gathering ideas for a non-dedicated space for ht2.0. Can you provide more details about those columns, especially the removable panels? Thanks

Sure thing. What would you like to know?
I'm curious about the rear of the panels - what you use to attach them to the column; how you joined the two halves of the panel and, of course, any pics. Thanks.

Can't believe I didn't find your thread sooner. I don't visit the General Home Theater & Media/Game Rooms forum often enough. Lots of great ideas in here.

Sure thing - I'll take some pictures later today for you to how you how they attach.

I had also considered starting this thread in the dedicated space since I was so used to it from my previous theater, but figured I'd play by the rules smile.gif I do think the dedicated area seems to get more visits though for some reason.

That's because they tend to post more pictures...

Just kidding, calm down people. biggrin.gif

I'll chime in here to say I think you made the right choice with the offset bar. In my opinion clear access through the space is more important than symmetry.

Thanks. Yea, I went back and forth with it, but ultimately I was thinking the same thing. If I went with symmetry, we would have had a heck of a time with traffic flow during a party.

Sadly, we had to bump the painting out a bit due to some unforseen mechanical problems with our 2nd car (go figure), BUT the bar stools did come in! Here are some shots from different angles in the room. I tried to get the rear support column in the picture as well just to give a little more visibility around the spacing issue I faced. Also, my wife was able to score some nice throws for the seats during her black Friday shopping. I think they give some nice accents to the browns already going on in the room.

In the meantime, I think I may start playing around with getting the bass shakers mounted in the seats. I wanted to initially wait until the rack was in place so that I didn't have more wires and hardware to hook up on the floor, but the holidays are coming up quick and I think Santa might need some BOOM in his movies.

Chairs look good. How's the quality of them?

So far I'm pretty pleased with them. They were listed as 30" stools, but actually end up being 28 in the back and 29 in the front. I could have used the extra inch or two, but they should still be fine. Assembly wasn't too bad. The cushion is held on by 5 bolts with lock washers, and then the legs attach with 4 more bolts and some screws. We have similar seats in our kitchen that we paid more for. I can tell that the more expensive seats have a more rugged fabric and a little more weight to them, but I'm pleased with how solid these are. As far as the cushions, they have a lattice underneath that looks like it's made from the same material seatbelts are, so I don't think they'll end up sagging anytime soon.

Looks sharp! Really fit in with the look of the room. Nicely done.

I know.. i know. I know...

Currently I'm sitting idle trying to decide what the next course of action will be. I got some gift cards for Christmas that I was initially going to use for some automated blinds over the windows in the gaming area, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've also been beefing up my website a little through the holidays to get this new HT consulting gig going, as well as looking for a career change into the AV industry - gotta do what you love, right? smile.gif

With any luck, I should have some more progress to report with in the next few weeks. Wish me luck!!

Good for you, and good luck on the new venture. But please don't think for a minute that this lets you off the hook for more pics. wink.gif

On no.. Not at all. The goal is to eventually be able to use the basement as a bit of a showroom for potential clients.

My little winky icon didn't make it onto my post, I hope you didn't take that the wrong way, that was totally ment in jest. I think it's a great idea especially if you can figure out a way to write that off as a work expense. Please keep us updated.

Thanks!

I think we've finally decided how to spend some of the money I have right now. I'm going to go with the motorized blinds along the game room area. The rack will most likely have to wait until the paint is done, but I still have my fingers crossed that it will be sooner rather than later.

Small update tonight. I finally pulled the trigger and order a trio of motorized blinds for the windows in the game room. They are Serena shades from Lutron, and work via RF and batteries. I read several good reviews on them and there were a fraction of what some of the bigger players were, so I'm anxious to try them out. Pictures to come once they arrive,

Here's a quick link to a YouTube video to show how they work:

Hey Hokie!! Your room looks Awesome! You did a great job with your open room, and your back-bar is beautiful!
Very simple, very clean, makes for a real nice open family room type of set-up!

I've been around a little, been working two jobs, trying to pay-off the family room bills, still have some finishing up touches to do,I had bought an Onkyo 818 on black-friday sale, that had a few issues, and then returned it with-in my 30 days, I waited 6-7 months to get a black friday deal, and the receiver I got was a bad unit, it did not switch hdi sources correctly, and it had the 24p playback bug, now after waiting almost 2 months, sounds like a firmware fixed it, but I did not want to take any chances, so I returned sine I had 30 days to return it, I'm going to wait it out for a couple of months, I would like to sell my house late this summer into fall, looking for a house with a different floor plan, to have a more larger room, possibly for a nice dedicated room, we will see how the search goes, I'd love to build a 16 x 24 room, so I'll see how may houses exist with a basement with that much room to spare, and have ceiling height.....

Not sure if you found a 42U rack yet.....:
I found a different local distributor other than Electronics Centre in Gvalley, it's called The Final Click.com, this is a different place, they sell direct out of Egan MN, it's direct from Chief, and Chief makes Raxxess brand, I found a 5 space rack shelf for the Onkyo 818 receiver, and it was only 42 bucks delivered, where others were almost 100 bucks or more, and you can call and speak to someone in sales, and they will help you find something with cross reference to the model your looking for.

Here is an example of a pull-out-rack you were looking for, they might be able to find an exact match, give them a call, this place will beat the higher prices.

Thanks for the links. The Raxxess stand is actually the one I've been looking at. It's cheaper in the link you sent, plus local, so that may be my new place. The only downside is that I'd now need to pay MN tax on it, but it still ends up saving me about $60-80 with the free shipping.

Thanks!! I'm looking at adding an HTPC to the mix at some point, so good to know there's a local guy available when I have questions smile.gif

Hokie,

I could not believe it when I found :The final clicks web site, and was able to buy a 5U rack mount shelf for 42 bucks & free shipping, like holy cow, and I called and spoke to a sales person, and they can look-up anything I was also searching for. If you get one, and if you need a hand carrying it in the house, just send me a PM and I will come out and lend a hand...

Also:
I've been using a HTPC for a quite a while now, and using media center with a ceton quad tuner, running linksys DMA 2100 media center extenders to 3 tv's through-out the house over cat6 gigabit network, it works nice, the extender does not have the same speed of a cable box, but does save me 10.00 per month per box, I'm trying to use a different remote with the extenders with larger buttons, but have not found anything yet...
