No Sound from Speakers with Viera Cast using Denon Receiver

Hi everyone! I've search for the answer to this problem and I must be missing something... I can't get Viera Cast to play through my speakers. This is my set up and equipment. Panny TCP54V10 with Denon 2809. TV is hooked up to the receiver using the HDMI 1 and the optical audio out. On the receiver end it's plugged into the HDMI in and the optical audio cbl/tv port. I have the tv speakers turned off and viera link disabled. On the receiver I have the cbl/tv input setting as HDMI none; opt1. All other HDMI connections (xbox, PS3) are working properly through the receiver. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

There's some confusion on your connections ...

If you don't have a cable/sat box and your TV cable connects directly to your TV, then you won't have an HDMI input from the TV to the AVR, rather only the optical audio cable from the TV's optical out to the AVR's optical input. The HDMI cable from the AVR Monitor Out to the TV will pass any video from the sources connected to the AVR. The 2809 is not an HDMI 1.4 AVR so it does not have the ARC feature and therefore will not pass audio back over the HDMI cable connecting the AVR to the TV.

Hi JD. Thanks for the quick reply. I suspected that the HDMI connected from the TV to the AVR wasn't involved in the issue but I wasn't sure. I'll head over to the owner thread and see if I can't figure out how to get the audio to work through the optical cable. I found the TV and the receiver manual to be less than helpful.

If you set the TV to output audio via the "optical audio output" and connect the optical cable to the OPT1 (TV) input, then you should get the TV audio when you select the "TV" input on the AVR remote.

That's the way I thought I had it setup. I'll play with it tomorrow. I'm overlooking or over thinking some detail.

Hi JD, just wanted to let you know I did indeed overlook the obvious: faulty optical cable. I picked up a new cable today and everything works great now. I'll still be reading the 2809 thread to learn how to optimize my speaker setting once I'm done configuring the room. Thanks again for your help.

If all else fails, go back to cables and wire...
