No snail-mail involved with the license, it's a download. There's also an access key# available in your section of the installer website. It's good for 30d, but you can easily update it on your own when needed for free. You may also need to download a Pro FW update depending on your particular processor model, again available on the installer site.

What firmware update are you referring to? I don't see any links on the installer web page for firmware updates.

Sotware, actually. The Pro software called MultEQ Pro.

Has Luke/Chris/anyone else at Audyssey ever hinted at Audyssey Pro supporting Mac systems in the near future?

From the Audyssey Pro SW release notes: MultEQ Pro 3.5 is not compatible with any Windows emulator for Mac OSX (i.e.
Parallels or VMware Fusion). Installers who wish to use MultEQ Pro 3.5 on an
Apple computer must use Bootcamp.

Looks like this is it for now.

Not AFAIK. I had to buy a cheap Windows laptop to run the SVS ASEQ1 software, and it also came in handy for my OmniMic too. When the time for Pro arrives, it will serve there as well, so not too bad. I do sprinkle holy water on my hands before turning it on, obviously, and pray to the God of Seattle that it works without me having to go back to University to take a PhD in Computer Science just to get it to connect to the Internet reliably. So far so good. It has something on it called 'Windows 7' which is like an ugly version of OS-X in some ways but it does seem to work without too much fiddling. I just bought the cheapest, lowest spec I could find on the net - you don't need much in the way of fancy bells and whistles to run Audyssey Pro or OmniMic software!

Dang. I can't even use Bootcamp because I have a MacBook Air, so there is no (cheap) way for me to use a Windows install disc without purchasing a standalone DVD Drive. I have friends whose laptops I would borrow in the past to run Paradigm PBK in my old setup (it needed a Windows system to run, like Pro) but it was always a hassle and I always felt rushed to do what I needed to and return it.

Hmmm........

I just realized today is Cyber Monday.....maybe I can find a small netbook for an unbelievable price (basically go the route Keith did).

Yeah, I went the borrowing route at first and it was always like you say. I picked up a brand new Windows lappy for 300 bucks - you could always look for a decent used one - someone who has lappyupgradeitis for example.

I considered Bootcamp for all of 7 seconds and then decided that I didn't really want Windows anywhere near my Mac.

Note to readers: this is not an attempt to start a Mac vs Windows debate. This is one Apple Fanboy advising another LOL.

Yeah - a netbook would do it. Even cheaper. You can choose a low spec too.

Does the speed/power of the processor in the computer being used with Pro have any impact on the final results?

Also, what connections are needed to hookup/run Pro? Just a single USB?

No. It might take a few seconds longer to do the crunching, but as it doesn't take very long anyway, I doubt if most people would care.

An Ethernet connection, bizarrely. Lord knows why they chose to do it that way.

I don't recall what AVR BCJ has, but the connection to a Denon AVR is a serial-to-USB cable. Not to worry, the Pro Kit contains all the cables you need to make the connections.

My AVR is an Integra DTR-70.3

By connections, I meant what output(s) are needed on the laptop being used? Audio out? USB? Serial? Ethernet?

Just trying to get an idea of the bare minimum I would need should I get a cheap cheap cheap netbook.

I think Keith has already answered your question.

I wasn't sure if it varied by brand/AVR. I finally found a good, in-depth review and setup illustration of the Pro kit, so I have a good idea of what to look for/what is needed. I think. lol

Thanks.

I should be clearer-in addition to the Pro software, you may need to download various other things such as the Pro Setup guide, Vista drivers, various pdfs including instructions for certain AVRs and Pre/pros, etc., all on the Downloads page.

Yes, sorry AJ - my mind is set in Onkyo mode. Serial to USB seems to make much more sense to me.

Could you post the link please BCJ?

Will do once I get back to my computer Keith.

So your Onkyo connects via Ethernet to the laptop? From what I can tell, my Integra hooks up via serial-USB cable. Being that they are the same brand (essentially), I find it weird your hookup is different. Hmmm.

I would be surprised if your Integra uses serial. (The serial connector that is present is not used for Audyssey - at least not on mine that is a DTC-80.2) Be careful when selecting the model in the drop-down. I selected DTR & should have selected DTC.

Varies depending on the target processor. Some use USB, some RS-232 and some Ethernet/Network.

Can't you download a trial version of Windows 7 off the net and then install it from there? I was able to install it without a DVD drive.

I don't know if that would work with boot camp, though I haven't looked into it completely yet.

The other problem is if my Integra does in fact require an Ethernet connection, my MacBook Air has no Ethernet port so even a boot camp solution wouldn't work. Hmmm.

Wi fi does work with great signal strength .

We need an ipod app for the kit!

Yes, you can use Wi-Fi, but it's not recommended. If you lose your connection due to interference, loss of power, etc., you can brick your processor and you'll have to send it in for repair.

You can get this USB/Ethernet dongle for your Air for $29.00:

I thought the Integras also used Ethernet for Audyssey Pro. Anyone?

Yes, quite so, Kal. I was thinking solely of Onkyo.
